Click and Clack on Installing Private Parts
Click and Clack on Installing Private Parts
I was listening to Car Talk on National Public Radio and a guy with a garage called to ask how Click and Clack deal with potential customers who want them to install parts that the customer bought somewhere else. It was interesting. The caller and Click and Clack don't like doing it because they make money from the parts they install, when they supply them. Someone said that they encourage the customer to buy from them if they can beat the price the customer paid from a discount auto store and they can usually beat the price. The garage warranties the part if they supply and install it. This is good news. Whenever I have a garage do work on my car, I use their parts and pay a ridiculous mark-up. Next time, I'll get a quote from Advance/Autozone/Pep Boys and ask the garage to install their own part for the same or better price and get the warranty.
A guy called-in with a 97 or 98 maxima this week too. He was blowing white smoke out his exhaust. They recommended he trade it in immediately. It should be available soon at a local auto lot.
You can download the show at www.cartalk.com, I think. I'm not advertising for the show. I'm just passing on info that might be helpful and entertaining to .ORGers.
