Recent Max Mods.. (Pics)

Wanted to share a few recent pics of the things I been doin to the Blaxima..

I replaced the seperate LCD, HU, and DVD player with one HU that does all that.. plus it's touch screen, navigation, and seperate video input with 4way switchbox for the Playstation, rearview cam, and 2 open slots for expansion!

..anyone selling a PS2 Slim on the cheap? Wanna pick another one up and upgrade the glovebox..
<More pics next post>

I also built an 'amp wall' just behind the RSTB in the trunk.. I mounted both amps to that on the trunk side.. On the RSTB side, I mounted the remainder of the equipment (tuners, modules) to keep them secure. In the center, I mounted the farad cap with digital display, so that with the armrest folded down, I can keep an eye on voltage levels! If I wasnt so lazy, I wouldve moved the speaker box to show a better pic of the rack from the back.. probably later..

There's my little update.. I have the full Ionic Kit painted and ready for install. I wrapped all the pieces in plastic, and they patiently await me in the garage. The Max is ready for the bodyshop. She needs a nice fresh coat of black on her, then they go on! I can't wait!! Hoping for within the next couple months... we'll see!

did you black out your bumper lights or buy them that way? cause I was told not to DIY on those because of possible cracking/ leakage.. everything else I did.

Very nice man. Where did you put your switch box. I have mine in my armrest compartment right now. I like those wheels. Your drop really makes them look good.

The amp wall is nice, Did you build it yourself? Are you gonna paint the Body kit yourself?

I'm interested in knowing where you purchased your navigation system too. How much did it cost you? What do you not like about it? Details man!

Thanks for the comments guys..

MaxGig, SmurfLeach, Lumberg, & Ruthless- I grabbed the HU & Nav off eBay! The HU lists for $1600 and the Nav for $1800. They can be ordered online for around $900 and $1200.. but, I paid $450 for the HU and $420 for the Nav!! I was a bit nervous about getting such things on eBay, but all is well and they function great!! The touchscreen makes the Nav so easy to use! I wired both units to a rocker switch (that is mounted between my heated seat switches), rather than to the ebrake switch.. that way I can watch movies on the go, and with the flip of a switch I still have my turn by turn voice navigation.. I have found the Nav to be very easy to use and I recommend it! It's the KNA-DV4100 model, the latest DVD driven unit made by Kenwood. They recently came out with one run completely off a hard drive that is supposed to be even smoother, but the $ is WAY up there, and I don't see anything lacking in this system..

Apparition - I bought the bumper lights that way, 'JDM style' black housings.. I blacked out the corners and headlights myself. Those are my spare corners actually.. I have the new CE diamond cut & clear lense corners, which I also blacked out.. I am trying to customize them to actually MOUNT to the car, rather than just HANG there! Anyone run into that problem/got any suggestions for that?

Ajcool & Semaj3708 - I used a Pelican game system switchbox, the one that Gamestop sells that looks like a small PS2!! LoL I had 2 I was using in the house, and sacrificed one for the car. I was looking around for a smaller style switchbox, but couldnt find any that were considerably smaller.. I currently have it mounted under the passenger seat, towards the front. I know just where it is so I can reach over and switch it up, just sucks when another dude is in the passenger seat! (: Cost was around $15 I think..?

Stagnet04 - I did build the amp rack myself.. I thought it was gonna be harder than it was, but it went smoothly.. I just used 1/2" MDF (normally would have used 3/4" but was trying to keep weight down!) and carpeted it all around! It keeps everything safe and mounted, and I can simply pull the speakerbox out now when heading up to the track..

I actually had the bodyshop at my work paint the body kit, before I got laid off.. they did it for the bubble! (which was SWEET) As much as I wanted to put it right on the car, I managed to talk myself into waiting and getting the car painted first! Thats next on the agenda, although I think it will be 2-3 months before that happens.

Ethnic6 & Nguyen925 - Yep, I definately lost some trunk space.. but thats ok! I don't mind, gotta have my music! Anyways, thats what I have a Blazer for! Actually, I stuffed THAT full of music too, and working on adding screens in it.. thats a slower process though, cuz the Max is my baby! LoL Ethnic6, what do you mean is my guage customized? You talkin about the cluster? Cuz if so, yes.. I modified that, as well as all door switches, to blue LEDs. Also the defroster switch is blue LED, and working on the Hazard switch next, then the clock goes white and I'm done! hehe..

Loverholic - Yeah I hear ya.. I wanted to scoop up a newer one too, but then I just said fuKKit and MADE mine newer! This IS a 96, although most people who look at it dont think so anymore.. I cant WAIT to get her painted and get the kit on.. I don't have a sunroof either, and though I want one bad, it doesnt bother me much anymore.. AlSousa99Maxima had a buddy put one in his Max and it came out BEAUTIFUL!! Full power just like factory and all, no leaks.. I MAY go that route later on down the road, but I dunno.. may just be a headache down the road?

HappyRiceFob - Amps and subs, hmm.. The subs I have had for a while, they were in 2 other cars.. I would say about $500 total in subs and box. The 4 channel v-power I bought from an .org member that worked at Circuit City a while back, NEW in the box, for like $100. ..and the mono channel v-power I actually traded a buddy for a RF Punch amp I had, all in the name of vanity! I have a huge Sony amp I used to kick these subs with, but the v-power was a perfect match to the other one, and looked tight having the same amps in the car, so I went with that. Now the Sony knocks the ****e outta my JL's in my Blazer..

Again, thanks for all the comments guys, I appreciate yer input! She's always a work in progress.. I love my baby yep yep I love my bitc+!! LMaO! Next is paint, then the kit goes on.. with Fall approaching, I'll be spending some time at my garage cleaning up and detailing under the hood. Hopefully she'll be looking all Fresh and Clean next Spring..

Looks very nice bro...love the navi system, gives the interior of car a MUCh newer look. My question is about you 3 gauge cluster,I have been debating this for a few weeks now,I already have the gauges but I really dont like the look of the cluster like that. So what Im wondering is do you like the cluster like you have or was there really no other alternative. I ask cause you have done the car very classy, including the stereo, yet to me the gauges look outta place...I have been trying to figure out ab alternative but am drawing a blank,is this the only option?

Looks really nice, the whole car is clean as hell. The murano's look good on some maximas and dont look good on others, but yours is one of the maximas that they look good on, navi is nice as well.....

..an alternative to the pillar pod is to use the 'shelf' under the radio, and mount guages there, giving that they are small enough. I know a lot of people consider the pillar mounted guages to be 'rice', and I personally can't stand blatently riced out cars, but I like the guages there.. its handy and it makes people wonder what might be under the hood.. it's WAY more in line of sight then under the radio..

Yea that makes sense...I was just searching for some pics of the setup you described and I think I found one like that and Yea,its definitly NOT how I would want my setup...I agree,on the Max it doesnt look bad,was just looking for an alternative,my main concern is how it looks at night,I hate things ,especially lights that catch my peripheral, gotta light my gauges up and see how bright, actually thinking about looking for some nicer ones, the ones I have dont look like the ones in the pic, perhaps these damn gauges are too ricey and thats my problem, not the setup...they were old one I had from my Integra days

I definately have a lot of time and effort AND money into the Max, but NO regrets! I love the car.. I thoroughly enjoy driving it! Obviously, one of the only setbacks is that I wont take it certain places where I wont see it for a while.. aKa the mall, movies, **** like that.. All in the name of securitys sake. But thats okay, thats why I have another whip, well for that and for winters! (:
As for the pillar pod, yeah I definately like it better than any of the maximas alternative possibilities.. I went with the Autometer Cobalt series, and as much as I would've liked to save a bit of coin, I'm happy with the end result because they all match and they go with the rest of the customized lighting! The LEAST necessary guage cost me $160, and believe it or not, THAT was actually a good deal! It looks kewl tho! LoL Like I said, no regrets.. I like the car and I could've used the $$ on a helluva lot worse things..
Under hood detailing is next on the agenda, slated for autumn.. followed by Nx and paint/Ionic kit..
