99 max with NATS failure

I have been searching for a complete NATS failure thread but couldn't find one. Last year I had this happen. I had to buy a brand new immobilizer and transpoder and ended up running me close to $900+. Now about 9 months later the same **** has happened. This isn't a simple case of keys needing reprogramming.....the actual immobilizer was fryed.

The dealer (Had to take it there since part is still under warranty) is saying that the immobilizer AGAIN has gone haywire so they ordered a new one free of course since it wasn't past 12mo/12000 miles. So they drop in the new immobilizer and the car starts. They reprogram the keys and everything is fine. I take the car start it up and it's great. Go to the bank, shut off the car come back out, starts great so I drive home. Get ready to go to work about an hour later....same ****....car won't start. Luckily I have allstate motor club so towing is free. Now the dealer is saying they cannot figure out what is wrong and some sort of electrical problem must be to blame. Now I have altezzas, fog light rewire, blinker mirror covers wired and HID's so they are trying to give me this **** saying that somehow I must have wired something weird and it is causing an electrical fault that is somehow working its way back to the immobilizer......is this at ALL possible?? I mean anything I have done as far as a rewire or feeding off of was done WELL IN EXCESS of a year ago, way before these problems started. Supposidly they are still trying to figure out what is up but does anyone know of this happening before as far as a COMPLETE NATS failure?

There is a short somewhere. Immobilizers don't usually go bad that quickly.

Seriously??? Did it just keep failing or what?? What kinda explaination did your mechanic give you? I am ready to sell it too now...I can't keep relying on the car if I constantly am dealing with the NATS system....I mean it is there to prevent theft and instead it continuously inconveniences me....I would rather just not have it and risk the chance of it getting stolen....would cost me less in the long run even if it was stolen....

It failed twice on me and that pissed me off. The dealer told me that I needed a new ECU and that would cost $1300+, so I said fuck it and sold it. Getting tired of towing it and paying $85 for a 5 minute job.

I'm the third owner of a 99 SE-L and there has never been a NATS issue with my car. I'm sure there are many here that would concur. It's not a universal issue by any means.

I am sure it isn't but Nissan also has never explained why people need their keys reprogrammed "Just out of the blue"....seems kinda weird to me. I mean I haven't done anything to my car in a while.....just drive it to work and school. I really have no idea what the problem is but then again niether does Nissan after having my car for almost a week. Kinda sounds similar to the air bag light issue.

BTW the dolphins kick ***.....they are going all the way this year!
