fuel leak near the tank
last week i was filling up....and just farting around waiting for the tank to fill.
so i hear the click, like its full. then i see gas coming out from under my car. i was like wtf. so i look and it seems to be leaking from a hose right in front of the tank.
a few weeks back i took my pump out to check it, and put it back in. that doesnt seem like it would cause a leak tho. then for the next like 4 days it would smell real gassy on start up. my milage has suffered considerably.
any ideas?

I had a very similar problem , but it was the small black hose. It ended up being cracked so it was leaking so I cut a little off(the part that was cracked ) and all fixed. I would check to make sure that there aren't any cracks or holes.

ah...had my fuel pump changed 3 months ago because i thought it was toast (problem turned out to be something else), and at the time, the mechanic who flipped it out said the rubber seal around the top of the pump (under the back seat) was about worn out. sure enough, a week later, much like u describe, filling up at the gas station, pump clicks "full", and there's a massive puddle under the rear wheel.
long story short, it's likely the gasket that fits around the top of the fuel pump, just under the metal plate that covers it (under the backseat). be VERY careful asking for the correct part at a dealer...should cost no more than $8-$10, and it is VERY thin, like a shoelace. make sure they don't give u the wrong thing...i had to go back to get the right one after they gave me one that was wide/thick.
try that...it's a cheap & easy fix.

its not like there was gas leaking into the back seat.

if there's still evidence of a fuel leak, at least it didn't cost you $100 to rule out the gasket (shoulda been <$15).

bumped a pretty old thread, but I'm tracking down a fuel leak as well which pretty much decides if i sell the car or not. I checked the gasket under the backseat and it was fine, no gas, two hoses were fine, dry. was it that new gasket that remedied the problem? how is it now that it's much colder and 3 months
