Does anybody know where the engine coolant sensor is located in a 1996 Maxima? My engine light (ECU code 01 03)came on a few weeks back so I ordered the part today and plan on installing it tomorrow. Any pictures would also help a lot!

Thanks in Advance

On the 4th Generation Maxima engine the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor is located in the water outlet tube close to the engine end of the upper radiator hose. There are two sensors in that area. The one nearest the hose is for the dashboard temperature gauge. The ECTS, the one you're interested in, is right next to the the gauge sending unit. There is a good picture of these sensors in the Haynes manual on page 3-7.

just out of curiosity... how much did you pay for the ECTS? i pulled that code as well, and will need to replace it too.

I don't know the price exactly but it's probably around $30 (at least that's the price on the other Nissans)

Installation a Success

Thanks to for all the help. I was able to install it in about 1 1/2 hours. Not bad for someone who's not a mechanic. Anyways, the part was about $26 and change from the dealership. You also need to buy a deep socket 19mm socket wrench to unscrew it. You can get this at any auto store. Hope this helps anyone else with this problem...
