Starting problem??

I know this has been discussed a million times but, I searched and tried everything there is to try.

This is what happens when the car is sitting for 5 or more hours(doesn't matter temp) it cranks for like 10-12 seconds stumbles a little ad then starts. I tried alot of things including cleaning the throttle body, iacv, pvc, changing fuel filter, ergc selenoid valve, and the satarter was replaced right before i bought it and many other things. I have no check engine light or any other problems. The only thing I can think of now would be the fuel pump, but would that affect the overall performance of the car?? I am hoping some of you max guru's can help me out.

Find your crank, it's right behind it, on the lower tangent.

Hey everyone.. Sorry to hijack this thread, but I tried to post one and since I have not yet 15 posts I cannot, and apparantly I can't earn those posts in the test forum...

My max is having problems starting, too.. but its like the starter just dies completely.

I can whap it with a screwdriver a few times and it will start but it's been getting weaker over the last 6 months and more frequent. Do I just need to have the starter replaced for the 2nd time? the first time this happened I had it replaced but it didn't solve the issue.

Also, when inspecting it, I've found two cables that are disconnected, one male one female, but, they do not fit together. They are right near the starter but seem to be for different purposes, both disconnected. One is red and one is black. Anyone know what these might be for or to where they go?

Here is a photo (click to enlarge)

Edit: They do reach each other, just one has 3 holes in the socket (red) and the other has one wide blade in the plug (black) ((even though the black looks like a socket and the red looks like a plug.. *shrugs*))

babymac, I had the same problem a few weeks ago. Two problems:

1. Dying battery. New battery - helped a little especially since it's getting cooler in the morning.
2. Dying coil. This reared it's ugly head this week with alot of stumbling and service engine light coming on - replaced it and *poof* easy starting.

BTW ... my service engine light comes on every year just before emissions checking. What a pain!

good luck with this, I have the same problem. I've come to the conclusion that its a fuel problem. Its just a guess, but hopefully when I get it checked out next week it will be fixed. Ill let you know what the tech's say if you're still having problems.

ignition switch

it's very cheap.
http://www.rockauto.com/ref/Airtex/D...tml?1S6365.jpg 23 bux
the plastic inside the switch wears out... this cause starting problem when the key is turned but it doesn't turn the switch all the way.

If your starter is good, ..it's very likely this problem. Starter relay will rarely go bad..almost never(starter relay are cheap though).

check the fuse under on the driver side under panel. There is a fuel pump fuse.

the coolant temp sensor is located right after your rubber hose coming off the radiator from the front of the engine. You will see it screwed to a metal piece from that rubber hose..
I can't get a pic now but did my best on describing..
good luck...

BTW..i replaced my coolant sensor --> nothin
replaced ignition switch --> you feel difference but was still there
grounded the tranny and the starter itself and there was a difference

I had the same problem, the only thing I had to do was tighten the nut to the power supply.

CPS dude, had the same problem last year round this time and had exactly the same symptoms, i had the cps changed and no problems since. A word of the wise, dont hit the gas pedal in an attempt to start the car, i did it and ended up flooding two o2 sensors. Big money.
