This be da deal.
Every time I 'race'(gunn the fuaker out gear to gear) my max it smells like something burning. (doesnt smell any other time)
this is my 1st 5spd but I can only assume its the clutch.
the clutch was replaced in the car at 160,000KM,
I bought it at 182,000KM and it's at 190,000km now.
I dont really see how the clutch could be gone this quickly unless they copped out on the parts when the did the clutch(nissan did it).
Any help you guys have would be appreciated.

You could either be burning your clutch, you could be burning your gear fluid. Could be the rear main seal leaking on to the cluch and your burning it up.

I would suggest you examine you car fully, check fluids, their level, and condition, check for leaks. when last was your gear fluid changed?

Maybe take it easy on your car till you figure out the problem

 

He did mention it's his first 5spd...he's probably just not fully releasing the clutch and stomping on the gas.

 

your probably riding the clutch. Keep your foot off the clutch pedal as much as possible

 

Your clutch is probably toasted. Less-than-perfect driving habits will quickly toast a clutch.

Yeah, my guess is he's got a mushy clutch and is powershifting. My clutch won't bite very hard if I try and powershift, and if I soft-launch and powershift 1-2 and 2-3 I'm sure it'll heat it up enough to slip.

 

What everyone said....constant racing will kill it....along with poor driving habits....put the tranny make sure rear main isnt leaking and replace clutch with a 5th gen

 

Clutches don't slip because they get too hot, they slip because the material is worn away.

The hotter it gets, the less it grips. I've experienced this many times in a few different cars, to the point where a 3-4k clutch dump in reverse in a Miata wouldn't even chirp the tires. Of course, once it cools down it's back to normal.

 

could be a bad pressure plate.....thats what i think mine is and mine is brand new. my rear main was clean no oil back there and the clutch and flywheel was clean....i dunno its gonna stay like that till i get some extra cash for a new clutch.....AGAIN....

I dont ride the clutch at all, but I dont know how the guy before me drove it. I'm gonna change the fluid out and inspect everything then, appreciate the comments and all your help. I really hope I dont need a new clutch.
and what are the pro's and con's of the 5th gen tranny?
I drive the car hard, plain and simple, quick shifts and hard revs, that habit probably wont change lol, just the way I drive my max. What can I do to prolong the life of the tranny and clutch, and also, what fluid should I put in, is there a filter or just fluid? Like I said my 1st 5spd.

 

Well if you drive like that you will kill your 4th gen tranny sooner or later. 4th gen 5sp trannys aren't quite as durable as most, and often need a rebuild anywhere from 60k-200k. I took good care of mine and ended up rebuilding it around 140k. Definitely replace the gear oil every year or two with Redline MT-90 and that should help extend the life a little. But I have a feeling you won't care and you'll be shopping for a tranny before long.

To put in a 5th gen tranny, you need to adjust the lengths of the shift rods and I think use different axles (but don't quote me- I haven't done it myself). Offhand I don't know if 5th gen trannys tend to be more durable than 4th gens. The 5th gen clutch though is much easier - it bolts right in without modification.
