Are 96 & 97 exhaust systems the same?

I need a replacement y-pipe & b-pipe for my 97SE and have a couple local guys selling used Budget pieces. 1 guy has a '96 & the other has a '99.

Would a 96 have the same y-pipe as a 97, or are the locations for the 02 sensors different? How about the '99 y-pipes? I appreciate the help.

They should be the same since its the same generation. 95-99 should be the same. Just look at any website that sells them its for 95-99.

the 97 max has an o2 sensor hole in the b-pipe 95-96 doesnt so get 97 to avoid drilling a hole in the 96 pipe if its used most likely to have rust on it just get a new one that fits your car

The Y-Pipe is different for 95-98 and 99. 99 You have to find out if its cali-spec and all that BS. Just buy the 96 for your 97 and you should be find.

The difference in B-pipe is the 95/96 has a o2 sensor on the cat, while the 97-99 has it on the B-pipe.

All the fed-spec 95-99 y pipes should be the same. B pipes I'm not so sure on.

97-99 B pipes are 6" SHORTER than 95-96 B pipes are. This is because the 97-99 cars have a pipe called an S-pipe in between the cat and the B-pipe that the 95-96 doesn't have.

Thanks for your great insight. Unfortunitly I have a job & I'm fixing this car which is my parents, so I didn't have time to search google.

I appreciate everyone elses help though. I have some big decisions to make.

well, I sure as hell hope you "have the time" to do other things on the car right. I work too and it doesn't mean I have to half-*** everything. Searching will provide more info, quicker..

so congradulations friend, you've found yourself a paradox.

Your a smart @ss eh? Since you're a newbie I won't bother arguing with you. If you don't have anything to contribute to the thread. Get lost.

haha, a newbie .. don't be mad because I spearheaded your argument with logical reasoning. Btw, I did contribute but you were too arrogant to listen.

There is no point searching on google because most websites will tell you that the exhaust system for all 4th gens are the same, which they are obviously not. This is why I would rather get the advice of maxima.org members.

I meant use google to scour the .org forums, since you haven't donated. If you would have done that, you would've saved that precious time you seem to have wanted to retain..
