I guess it's time for a new clutch...

Noticed past couple weeks the clutch wasn't "grabbing" very well. Everytime put in gear, step on gas, it will rev a lil' and then goes back to normal. The revs get more and more sensitive and higher each day and today on my way back from work, starts to smell something burnt while sitting in traffic. I am pretty sure the clutch is dying on me. It's still original clutch and car is about 145,000 miles. Guess it's time to rake out some cash.. ..anyone has the same fate as me? Any idea what is the reasonable price for a new one?

Clutch kits are usually around $250, and then the labor will be more like $300+ on top of that. If I were you I'd get a 5th gen clutch, it's a direct drop in, same price and it holds about 15% more torque.

I have the exact same problem as you, Step on gas, slips/revs higher than acceleration.

The other day my new clutch components got here. Unfortunately my trans oil has not gotten here yet so I can't do the job until then.

Anyway, I have a 98 SE. I ordered the pressure plate, release bearing, and disk for a 2001 from http://nissan-auto-parts-dealer.com/

Total was right at $200. I've been told the 2000-01 clutches are better vs the 93-99. Seems to be an unanimous position around here so that is what I went with.

The above only applies if you intend to do the job yourself. From the calling around I did it seems as though the general price for the part from a shop willing to do the job was 300 plus labor. As I refuse to pay an extra $100 for parts I made up my mind to attempt the job myself. I have never done a clutch before nor done anything other than my brakes, rotors, and oil though so we'll see how it goes
