Bose Head Unit in a NON-Bose Car...

Alright my buddy has his car...1997 Maxima. He told me that he has a bose Headunit that crapped out and I bought a 99 head Unit for him, Bose and put it in...The unit that I took out has NO Markings on the Unit that say bose on it. everything plugged up fine but the sound, he said, doesnt sound right. He said that its just no real volume coming out of the Unit.

I didnt even know the Bose Unit would plug into the Harness for a Non-Bose equpited car. Can someone shed some light on this for me.

Maybe I missed a plug in the back of the radio Unit. Im kinda puzzled

well no bose emblems on the headunit and no bose emblems on the rear deck speakers, probably a good guess that its not bose.. But you're right I didn't think the two would even inter-connect.

the plugs are the same for bose/non-bose so you could still hook it up

the bose deck does not have an amp in it, since every speaker has its own amp attached to it.
this could be why the bose HU hooked up to the normal speakers has no real sound coming out

other than that, i dont know

BOSE units have external amplfiers at each speakers...or newer ones has once centreal amp under a seat or under the rear decl......a NON Bose unit has a built-in amplfier in the HU......so if u put a BOSE unit in a car designed with non-BOSE u will get very little or no sound at all since there is virtually no amplifer in the BOSE headunit....it has enough juice to put out a lil bit of sound...the plugs are prolly the same though....never tried putting BOSE in a non BOSE or via versa so i cant tell of they are teh same

Also the Bose speakers are 1 ohm. Youre going to need 4 amps, 4 speakers, 2 tweeters, and lots of wiring which in the end IS NOT worth it.

the plugs for bose/non-bose headunits are the same except one thing, the bose plugg has an extra wire (black if i remember correctly) that goes to the relay that gives power to the amps on the speakers. I have installed a bose unit into a car that had a non-bose unit before. You have two options, get all 4 bose speakers with amps or get an aftermarket amp to drive the speakers you already have in the car. I wouldn't consider this a hard project, just a little bit of wirring. (which i love by the way ).
