If you can get one real cheap, rebuild the tranny, put in a new clutch, new brakes, new CV's, and auto-rx (google that) the engine, it will serve you well.

got my 97 SE 5spd for $4400 last year, had 142,003 miles on the clock and it ran like new, inside was perfect, really the whole car was in new condition but it just had 142,003 miles on it.

IMHO, drive it, if it's a car you like and looks to be well kept from what you can see and has no apparent problems(whether it may develope some in the near future is another story), then don't worry about it. also at 150K the VQ will not need rebuilding unless it was SERIOUSLY abused by it's previous owners, the rest of the car is what you will have to worry about...

Find a good clean one and have it inspected by someone you trust. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I have a 95SE, 5-speed with LSD, with 65,627 mostly highway miles on it. It has had virtually nothing go wrong with it. However, it isn't for sale and won't be anytime soon.

150K on the engine is nothing. As kcryan suggests - AutoRX the engine. Assuming you find one with over 100K on it, you will have to do two applications.

What I would want to have if I were you is the maintenance record for the vehicle. It may be that the brakes, CV joints, clutch and transmission have already been rebuilt (wishful thinking) or at least some of these items have already been dealt with.

I agree with these guys 150k on a vq engine is'nt bad.. My 96 had 141k on it when i got it, now has 176,000+ and has never burned a drop of oil... Find one that has been well maintained... If the mileage is high check cv joints, plugs, filters, clutch, etc.... We have one of the best v6 engines on the planet, so just be smart and find one ya like

There you go maxilover 06. It's not far from where you are. Make sure you check it out for rust and get it on a hoist while you are at it.

Only from their website at www.auto-rx.com. I am not sure if there is a discount available through the .org but I believe there is if you join www.bobistheoilguy.com

maxlover- just keep your eye out, between the org, ebay, and craigslist you should be able to find a Max with lower miles. I agree that 150k is nothing on these engines, but it took me 3-4 weeks of patiently looking and I found a 97 Max GLE, looks like it just came out of the factory, that was a one-owner car and only had 87k on it. The only sacrifice I made was it's an automatic, but it's in such great shape that it was worth the sacrifice. That one in Jersey looks pretty good. SE with leather and sunroof? can't beat that.

And even the GLE model, please. Anyone? Are GLE's not available in a 5-spd?
