Just wondering if anyone has tried this free mod: bypassing the coolant lines that heat up the throttle body. I've heard a few claims that it adds a horsepower or two and may improve gas mileage...can anyone confirm this?

haha I was expecting some, "are you kidding!?" "are you serious!" replies! lol. I didnt use them when i did my de-k swap if that helps any..
I can't speak for the maxima but as for my 95 camaro, this is a very common mod. Believe it or not there are proven gains of approx. 6 rwhp. As for the throttle blades sticking in cold weather thats just straight up bs. Almost everyone on the camaro forums has done this mod and I have not read about one problem with throttle blades sticking even with people that live up north where there is a lot of snow. I read somewhere on the org that the coolant lines through the throttle body also screw up the readings on one of the sensors if it is bypassed so it won't work. It works on some cars and doesn't on others such as ours.

It's far from BS if you understand what happens.Originally Posted by NYC32798

The coolant lines circulate coolant to the TB so the cold idle circuit can work correctly. There is a plunger that extends from the TB to open the throttle plate slightly when the engine is cold, thus giving you a fast idle speed and help with cold starts too. When the TB coolant lines are disconnected that plunger doesn't feel any warm coolant and stays open, thus keeping the car's throtle plate open after the engine is warm. Thats what is ment by "sticking throttle". It causes a high idle speed that takes long engine operation time to go away.
Do some research, the mod does nothing except screw up the cars ability to control idle speed correctly once the engine is warmed up.
If you want cooler intake temps, feed the VQ some cooler air with a true CAI.
That information can be found in the stickys.
Refer to a shop manual
for information on the throttle bodys cold idle circuit operation. That's probably what I read as I stated on why it wouldn't work on our cars. I knew I read somewhere that it wouldn't work on our cars. I was referring to the blade actually freezing up because of the weather being too cold.
