She won't start!
My car won't start! Anyone know why? hahaha
Anyways, I believe it's the starter because it's been acting funny the past week or so. 1.) When I would try to start the car, it would crank for an unusually long amount of time before for the car to start. [few seconds longer than a typical healthy starter] 2.) While cranking, it would suddenly STOP cranking for a split second, then continue cranking.[and if i recall correctly, while it stopped for that SPLIT second, the lights would dim] 3.) just the other day AFTER the car was warmed up and running, I turned it off, then tried to start it again and the car cranked for a VERY long time before starting while doing that split second stop thing, then continuing. And 4.) That squeek that I use to hear on start ups (high pitched squeek of an ungreased starter i believe) went away! I thought that was a good thing. It was probably more like the 'calm before the storm' - exhausting it's last bit of lube. Just a guess.
Now, the battery seems to be just fine, because i'm getting plenty of power in the car - radio, head lights (low and high beem) etc..etc..
I was thinking of re-greasing my starter anyways, when i was getting that squeek sound. But, is it TOO late for that? Does it need to be rebuilt? Or buy a whole new one?
Also, IS IT EVEN THE STARTER? someone said I could be drawing too little, or too much voltage to the starter.
If I went ahead and replaced the starter, and it wasn't the starter...well I just don't have the time or money for that mistake. So...i'll definitely consult my mechanic.
Anyways, input would be great!
She has 97k miles on it. It's a 1997. Auto. Maybe this is a common seizing point for the starter? or something else that i'm not aware of?
HEEEELP! I need my car to work

Before you go ahead and replace your start or begin to even remove it, I would recommend you make sure everything is connecting properly and there is no corrosion on any of the wires or contacts. Sometimes, especially with years of use, corrosion can get on the battery terminals or the starter contacts and either cause the starter to not work at all or work intermittently.
I had this issue recently and it was quickly resolved by applying WD-40 to the contacts and a little scraping of the contacts with a wire brush.

It's just making a clicking sound when i try to start it. One click. I turn the key, and something clicks. I feel like the starter is seized or something. I did try the grounding trick to no avail. Not sure right now. Kinda pissed i couldn't fix it today.
Oh well, i'll have to call the mechanic i guess. Or i might regrease the starter.
