Well if your planning on boosting your maxima with a s/c or turbo then youll need an upgraded clutch. I would recommend the Clutchnet 6 puck Sprung Hub.

If you were just planning on bolt ons and no boost, then ive heard nothing but great things about the guys installing the 5th gen clutch on their 4th gens. A bit beefier clutch setup than the 4th gen

I've never bothered looking at factory clutches before, but are they not the exact same between 1989 to 2001?

No. They're not.

They're interchangeable, but functionally different. For starters the 5th gen PP can exert about 15-20% more potential force than the 4th gen, and I've heard (not looked into it though) that the 3rd gen clutch disk has more material than either the 4th or 5th gen.

Exedy is actually the maker of the 5th gen clutch.

I never knew they made 5th gen clutches. I have been hearing good things about the Spec clutch, how do those old up against ACT stage 1 or 5th gen clutches?
