Warning to all guys with blown hood struts
#45
I would recommend the generic ones from Advanced or Auto Zone. Mine fail about every two years or so, but they have a lifetime replacement and I just swap them out. I think they come to around $15 each. One of you machine shop guys should come up with a design for a solid one that snaps onto the factory posts. I bet some of you fancy guys would buy them for when you show off all the shiny stuff under your hoods.

You just did mention that the hood was going down slowly. ?
Your fingers were stuck for 3 hours? How did you get them out?
"fingers worh more than 100$" Huh??????????
The damage to your fingers would have been worse had you owned a stick shift?????

jesus if anybody has blown hood struts stop being a cheap *** and just replace them, anyone that has to work on the car will thank you for not being cheap, I dont know how many freaken cars I had to use vice grips on when I was in the windsheild business, and they dont hold 100% of the time.........................................=hurt shoulders and heads=mad techs at the owner!

hood struts are cheap from autozone, problem solved.
the blood clotted under your nails, will make the nail above it rot out. eventually they will fall off and a new one will grow in. make sure that you put a band-aid over the open flesh. easy to get infected there.

I thought he meant that too! . . . that would suck, hood fully lock, you hands are trapped, nobody around. . .
If you had a CF hood, it would have shut and locked on your fingers, not enought weight for it to pick up speed fast enough.

well if vice grips dont work.. i would expect the struts to not work under certain conditions... over any work that takes a long period of time a SMART tech. woud put a pipe or something to support the hood.

get some screws in that...
I had blown struts for looong lonng time, and what I did is took the struts out drilled out a hole in them and put a screw in the hole everytime I pop the HOod.... works better than a set of struts breaking every once ina while....yeahh cheap stuff.

Smartest Idea Yet.
Ill try that.
Kind of reminds me when your lifting weights, and you slide a pin to the desired weight amount.

All that trouble to save $30 when most of struts you buy through Autozone, Pepboys, Advanced Auto, etc. all come with lifetime replacement warranty? Not sure about the logic with that.

Then explain it to me.
Why did he say he forgot to mention the hood was going down slowly when he did mention it was going down slowly?
What does this mean in English: "fingers worh more than 100$"
What does having an automatic transmission have to do with slamming fingers in hoods?
