Air Intake Sensor and Knock Sensor
Air Intake Sensor and Knock Sensor
Hey All...
I failed inspection recently and now need to have these replaced. The garage gave me an estimate of 600.00. I think it can be done for less but not sure what you guys have experienced with these two items. Can you assist? I tried searching but can't seem to find the write up to fix these.. Thanks Everyone..
I'd like to get the parts and do it myself but again, not sure if its something that can easily be done...

Both sensors will be under 200 total, plus 30 minutes of labor to install them. 600 bucks is absolutely crazy.
the intake sensor you are talking about..t eh right name is MAF= Mas Airflow Sensor.... 8 minute fix, it cost about 400 bucks at the dealer but i got mine at junkyard for $60 ..... i have pics at home but i am at my pastors office right now..... if you open your hood and look at the intake.. the part right between the resonator and the filter cover...thats it... it has lil square shape part to it at the top.......
Squeeze the connector together, pull the connector away from the sensor, undo the 4 clips of the air box, undo the hose clamp on the throttle body side of the MAF, undo the hose clamp on the air-box side of the MAF, rip the MAF out, replace with new MAF ... done.
Tell the garage to go *&^% themselves!

A B C....... done before you can get to Z..lolcan you believe these guys....$600....
when you're done changing them, go back to the shop and tell them it cost you less than half the price and you did it yourself.....Bastards!!!!
wait a second, don't replace your MAF yet unless you're 100% positive that it's bad or going bad. Any idle problems? is the car refusing to go above 2000 RPM's? if you don't have any of these problems, your MAF is likely fine. the IATS and the MAF are two completely different things... The Intake Air Temp Sensor is located in the side of the airbox closer to the strut tower (that's the location on my '95, should be the same or somewhere similar for your '97) and will literally take you 3 minutes to replace. Should cost under 20 dollars. The 0110 code that you have points to the IATS, and the 0325 points to the knock sensor. From the codes you've given us, it doesn't seem that your MAF is bad at all. maybe the guy is trying to get more $$$ out of you by telling you you have a problem with your MAF. I had the IATS code as well, and it went away after i removed the IATS, and cleaned both the sensor and harness with electrical parts cleaner. Knock sensors are cheapest on ebay, typically $70 max shipped. Autozone has the IATS for $15.99, but they'd need to order it for you.
Oh.. Good Catch. I need to check up on that. Sorry.. the 600 bucks got me flustered.. I should've double checked ... Thanks.. No I have no problems with it being sluggish or anything...
Good Catch 2PB.. Thanks!!!!!!

No problem, good luck with replacing those things. I did my knock sensor a while ago and it wasn't that bad. the swivel socket wasn't really working for me. But what did work was sgetting the ratchet on the bolt, and resting a piece of pipe on a little groove in the intake manifold, and using it to pry on the ratchet. The bolt broke loos pretty easily with that procedure. trust me you'll feel great when you're done, and not to mention the fact that you've also just saved yourself a bunch of $$$. lol
Help...
So.. I've been swamped and haven't gotten my knock sensor yet either. So, sitting here I was thinking that I can go through Haynes.. No luck.. So.. Once again, I'm going onto my max fam.. Can someone tell me what the part number for the Intake Air Temperature Sensor is? or.. If you can tell me where to go. I even googled it and not sure what to use. I read Haynes and it tells me how to test/replace it but not what to replace it with..
Thanks Again!!

I just replaced my knock sensor today. It was much easier than some people make it sound. It took me 20 minutes including the 10 minutes I took ripping my place up looking for it since my girl hid it on me. I was able to get my hand in there and I ended up getting a few cuts but it doesn't bother me. I reset the ecu when I was done but I think i'm one of the few that didn't get a power gain. Didn't notice any difference on the butt dyno.
