99 cali spec MAF help?

well i just finished taking out my diy ram air and placed the oem air box back in. When i fired the car up i forgot to connect the MAF so my dumba$$ did it while the car was running. The car bogged while i pluged it in but than idle back to normal. So then i get in the car and damn the check engine light is on. So then i drove around for 20mins and the car ran better than before the infamous 99 rough idle was gone and the car acc better, granted i also changed my coils and plugs and now back to stock air box. Anyways i ran the codes and got 0102 = maf sensor issues. But the car runs fine in fact it runs better but tha light is still there.

1. How important is it that i change the MAF and do i need to since the car exhibits no problems asscoiated with a bad MAF? Plus is there a particualr one i need for the 99 cali spec gen 4 or are the all the same for all gen 4 95-99?

2. Should i try resetting the ecu again?

3. How long can i go with the light on, if in fact i do have a bad MAF what exaclty does this sensor do for the car so far even though currently the car runs fine. e.g. will the engine like over heat or will i get horrible gas milaega or some kind of catastrophic failure.

help guys

thanks

Tim

the codes went out after i first reset the ecu but an hour later i restart it and the light is back on, i'm just confused bc the car is running fine it doesn't have any symptoms of a bad maf. I think i messed something up when in the maf the first time while the car was on. But currently no idle issues, acc, or rev nothing is it really a maf, ughh?? s

someone told me to unplug the maf while the car is off plug it back in and then reset the ecu

Hey you can either drive it for a a week or two and the code will go off or reset it. Dont replace the maf unless you need to. It will be a waste of money.

oh thank you, i tried reseting it but the light won't go out, the car runs perfectly fine no sign of what is associated with a bad maf, there is a maf for sale on ebay used 90 warranty going for 10 plus 10 for shipping that ends tomm around noon. i just don't want to spend a lot of money on a new maf if i don't need it. Should i be experiencing anything if i do i have a bad maf?
