I was wondering....since all clusters have the light to display this...but it was only part of a package (cold weather i think) is there a sensor or perhaps change the fluid resevoir out for with with sensor and then locate where to hook it up at??? Would love this feature.....

Yes, there is. Someone has done it, but I don't remember who. There is a sensor you can buy from like $10 for Nissan that you can mount in your fluid resivior.

You need to drill a hole in the bottom of it for the sensor (about 1" circle). You're car should already be pre-wired for the sensor.

Where might i locate the pre-wiring? dangling somewhere in that vast space behind the fender?

Speaking of behind fender....time to pull out my cai filter and clean it up...

I would imagine. I bought this sensor, but never took the time to install it. It's still on my list of things to do.

Aaron, the prewiring should be there >>

I have a '97gxe and the connector was just hanging in there, taped to the rest of the harness. I discovered it by accident once while fooling around with my foglamps. I obtained a used washer tank from a yard (probably came out of a GLE) and plugged it in. I did have to clean out the connector...it was gummed up with corrosion due to it being taped to the harness facing upwards (probably retained water). I cleaned it up with some electrical contact cleaner (availible from Radio Shack) and an old toothbrush.

Saweeet it worked!

If any of you all want to know the Low Washer Fluid Light "Mod" worked. I have a 95 SE w/Leather but no CW package...which means no heated seats, mirrors and no low washer fluid sensor in my tank. All you have to do is order the sensor, drill a hole ( i used a dremel tool and went slow, testing the fit of the rubber gromet you put in the hole by inserting the actual sensor, filling it with H2O and seeing if it leaked), Pull the plastic guard down behind the passenger side fog light area, look for the sensor wire and plug it in. I'm banking that all max's are prewired for this. It should be taped to the washer fluid pump wiring, as aforementioned by another member here.

The part number is 28911-1E400 "Sensor Assy - Wash T" It was 17$ from classic nissan here in jersey. You can get it cheaper from courtesy but i said screw the 7 buck shipping charge.

This is prolly very trivial to some people but i figure what the heck.....a cheap half-already-done mod. Plus its nice to know when your low on fluid....specially in the winter weather i have here.

Do you happen to know what kind of sensor is it? Is it just a pair of contacts that stop current flow when fluid is below it? Also under the hood I looked down through the open area nearby the passenger side headlight and found a connector wrapped up to the wiring I think going to the headlight. I don't know if it's for the fog lamp or is for the washer fluid sensor. I looked down from drivers side and couldn't find the same connector, not sure if something blocked my view.
BTW my Max is 96 auto GXE with Security and Convenience package.
Thanks.

Tank Size

The last time my WW Fluid was replenished was in April. I use the WWF every day but it never seems to become empty and the light never seems to come on. How much can this tank hold?

Also, im not sure if I have the light but I do have heated seats and my WWF (Windshield Washer Fluid) cap has nothing hanging from it. (It is just a cap with no plastic line attached to it)

It holds a sh*tload of fluid. I'm sure you have the light, most likely you have the pre-wiring too. Look up under the fender directly below where the tank sits. Youll have to pull the plastic undertray down or unscrew it....the low fluid sensor plug should be taped to the wiring running to the ww pump. If so..its a easy addition.....just take your time cutting the hole....to big and ww fluid will leak right out.

I finally installed the sensor today. I'd say it is easy enough. Bought a hole saw at Home Depot, one and a quarter inch for under $7, and the sensor at the local dealer is $17.40 plus tax. I just drill a hole and let the fluid come down into a bucket. After sensor is in place I turn the ignition to "ON" and the "low fluid" light turned on. I poured in some fluid and the light turned off.

Question: Now I have enough fluid. When I turn ignition to "ON", the "low fluid" light does not turn on, not like some lights such as airbag that will turn on for a few second then turn off (self checking). Is this normal? I hope it is.

Will this part # fit for a '98 SE?

Only other reason the LWF (Low Washer Fluid) light would come on at start-up is if you really are low on washer fluid, otherwise everything is working fine

Most likely it is a float switch. Is there any reason why you need to know?

The way I found the connector when I did this was when I pulled the splash guard that's attached to the lower bumper cover. I was trying to access the back of the foglamps to aim them and when I was looking straight up, I noticed the connector, taped (facing upwards) to the harness. I removed the tape and plugged it into the sensor at the bottom of the washer fluid tank. Try looking for the connector this way.

So the light is on the dash then? But knowing how the dash was changed slightly for '98 (fuel gauge switched around, digital odo), would the LWF light still be on my dash, but in a different position?
