Axle Problemssss???

I was driving down the road today and everything was fine. All of a sudden I started hearing a noise and felt a vibration comming from the front wheel. It was a very noticable vibration that was thumping the whole car. It sounded and felt like the lug nuts were loose. I tried to tighten them up on the side of the road, but I didn't have a wrench. They seemed tight though. It kept getting worse. If I had my foot on the gas it would cause the problem, if my foot was off the gas it was fine. I think it's my axle because it's been popping and clicking for about a year now. The noise and vibrations stopped once I got onto my road while comming home. While in neutral I don't get the vibration or hear the noise. It only happend when the wheels are turning while my foot in on the gas, no matter what speed greater than 0 mph. Anyone else have this problem? What should I check?

Sounds like axles....

Check: ball joints, axles, knuckle, wheel bearing, control arm and bushings.

Thanks for the reply Fr33way. The ball joints were replaced two years ago. I think the wheel bearing is bad? It's comming from the same side I've been having the "infamous axle problems when you have a lowered car". I guess tomorrow I will be looking over everything and I have to go back to school on Tuesday. But what was weird is that it stopped right near my house. Only when I was far from my house it did it. HAHA

The thing that's NOT good is that could be the axle popping in and out.

Yea, that's what I'm thinking. Get a new axle or fix it?

If you want raxles buy raxles.....

Don't say a DAMN thing otherwise because your car is kitted and rimmed up.

I would inspect the axle before making a decision but it will be now or later that you will have to replace it (if you stay low).

quit crying? what do you want us to do? by creating a thread on an internet forum won't necessarily make a jack and two handymen show up at your door.

Okay, this is BULL SHIIIET!!!

I just took my car for like a 45 minute drive and it didn't do anything out of the ordinary. It's like nothing ever happend last night.

It was funny because I got the problems as we were driving to a haunted place around here. Maybe that was a sign to stay out??

I hope I can make it up to school tomorrow without it happening again.

My axle boots are not ripped at all and not leaking...

I've been lowered 3" for a little over a year. I'm still on my first axle, but now I think it's done. I was driving up to school this evening and it did it again on the highway. I slowed down and was going to get off an exit and it suddenly stopped.

Not sure this is related to your noise or not but my car made a noise from the right front and it turned out to be the carrier bearing on the RH axle. I found the noise by putting the car on jackstands and spun the wheels (with the engine) while listening from below. I also put a screwdriver against the hub and against the axle support bearing (near the center of the car). most definately identified the trouble spot.

I could have just replaced the bearing but since I had replaces the Axle 2 years ago (about 40,000 miles) with a rebuilt one. (My guess is they didn't replace that bearing). Anyway I had a lifetime limited warrenty so I got a replacement for free but Still had to install the thing.
