glad i could help, but the answer to your original post IS FOUND IN THE FAQ'S!!! ive been on this board a long while. and i RARELY flame newbies. but when they ask a question to which the answer is right in front of them it seemes to me like they still like to be spoon fed everything.there are people on this board who will say alot worse than what i have said, and belive me, i try to help the newbies as much as possible. Now if you had of asked about peoples preference on trim levels or something of that nature, then my response would have been different and i would not have made any comment at all. BUT YOU DID'NT!! YOU ASKED A QUESTION WHICH HAD THE ANSWER RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!!!

BTW

i drive a 98 blk/blk se 5spd

Yeah I don't want to be an @ss either but I agree with Blackwind. Your posting questions that are right in front of you. I'm surprised you didnt get much more flammed. You gotta understand that some guys have been on here so long that they've seen these post so many times. I havnt been here anywhere close to them but I've seen so many reposts by newbs because they dont read anything. The whole point of stickies is so that you can have a better understanding of your car before you start asking every possible question. Get used to being flammed. I've had my share, and everyone else has to. If you can't deal with the comments then don't post....

what u got is less than half of the flame that were thrown at me when I was a newbie, trust me... later on when u get more experience and start searching things urself, u will eventually get tired of all the newbie threads and become irritated old farts like us...

its for the car buyer who wants the basics of what the maxima has to offer, but does not want all the bells and whistles

My family has two Maximas, both 99s.
GXE-automatic, security and convenience, power moonroof, am/fm/cassette/cd
SE-L-automatic, security and convenience
So both are pretty similiarly equipped. I actually think the SE rides a little smoother. Anybody really notice if the SE automatics and GLE models idle smoother than the GXE automatic-the previous two have the electronically controlled motor mount to smooth things up-Our SE idles a little smoother, but maybe it's just my imagination?
How about rare options on Maximas-how rare are the side airbags on the 98 and 99 models with leather and the required deluxe seating package-airbags/heated seats?
or 95/96 GXEs with Bose?
GLEs without sunroofs?
SEs with cloth and heated seats? or 95/96 GXEs with cloth and heated seats?
SEs without the sunroof?
SEs without the comfort and convenience package?

GLE is the only one (desides canadian ES's and the side badge on the '99 SE-L's) that has the trim level badge on the car.

only drawback to the GLE in my opinion is the auto tranny. i like the chrome accents and "fake" wood interior. ride is a lot nicer inside and with rsb it's better than an SE's ride

i thought i read somewhere once that the GXE was a lot lighter than other maxes. maybe it was only cuz they come stripped idk

oh and i don't that the trim levels are actually accronyms. i can see SE could mean special edition and GLE could mean grand luxury edition (total guess) but then what would GXE be?

GXE means general "expletive deleted" edition.

i have a 96 gxe but it has alot of options.someone went crazy with it.

my GXE

Black guage faces

Cloth seats

Basic stereo (BOSE optional but extremely rare)- i have the bose with the disc changer

Probably no sunroof (optional but very rare) i have a sunroof

Chrome outer window trim and door handles

Auto trans

spoiler

No fog lights

Steel wheels with hubcaps

Manual A/C

the winter package or heated package
included
heated seats
heated mirror's

so i have a rare 1996 gxe maxima i guess.not the rarest but not seen that much either.i have only seen three other maximas with the changer in it from the factory.
oh ya i also have no speed cut either.not to many gxe's like that.and abs brakes.

Get an I-30T w/5spd. All the luxury and performance of GLE an SE. You also get a LSD. They are hard to find, but worth the time to locate.

Depending on cash and intentions, you might want to get an auto and swap it to a 5 spd. The autos generally are driven softer.

I have a 95 GLE. I love everything about it, except for the fact that it is an automatic. I wish I had the money to convert it to a manual.

I have two questions for anyone that has converted their transmission from a auto to a manual; was it expensive? and was it worth it?
