Rear Rotors And Brake Pads

I had my rear rotors and pads replaced yesturday and now the rotors rub against the pads constantly when I drive and I hear the sound. My mechanic told me that it's ok because they are new and because every car has some rubbing of rotors and pads. (I got pads at strauss, and rotors ordered by my mechanic).
Actually I had to replace my rear caliper because the old pads and rotor were rubbing constantly and it was hard to roll the wheel when the car was on a lift; and I think that was the problem of my terrible gas mileage (200 miles per tank), but now they rub on both wheels, may be not so hard but enough to make the car accelerate slower.
Will the rubbing go away after a few weeks when the pads will become thinner ? Did anyone had these problems ? Does it really affects gas mileage ?

Not hearing the sound it is making, it's hard to say if it's normal. But you say it's preventing the car from accelerating normaly, that shouldn't happen. On the other hand, brake pads are always in contact with the rotors, but the wheels should still turn pretty easy when they are off the ground. brake pads on a car will not completly separate from the rotor like and a bicycle.

You might have a slightly seized caliper. That or the little rubber things that can go in and out on the bracket for the pads will get stuck from rust or grime. I had that happen to me and it took an hour and lots of wd 40 to get loose. I also had it slightly on the fronts but they came out alot easier. Check to make sure those arent stuck. Also check your backing plate. It may be a little bent causing the sound.

I hear a metal rubbing noise at low speed. When the car was on a lift I could roll the rear wheels but they would make only one circle and stop by themselve.
I hope the brake pads will become thinner in couple of weeks
