Put in the Tokico Illumina set... a couple of question

Hey all,

I put a full set of the Illuminas in the Max today and I have to say - what a different ride... the OEM shocks were TOAST; we could compress them with a finger... Couples with the Eibach Pro Kit - it looks so nice and drives well too -

Which brings me to question number one: For those of you who have the Illuminas, what did you set the stiffness settings at? Currently I have it at 2 for the front and 3 for the rear.

Number two: Is there a need to break the shocks in?

Number three: Could bad shocks be a cause of bad MPG and engine shuddering while accelerating? I dont get much a shudder anymore when I mash it

As far as settings, I had them on 3F & 4R, but now it's 3 & 3.

I change mine to what suit's me, 2 & 3 is fine.

Not a good idea unless the car is a 24/7 track car... otherwise you will kill your Tokicos prematurely.

i've heard that is bad if you change it to a lower number afterward tho. and what's the best number to not feel the car shaking like an earthquake when i cant avoid potholes?

It's possible as I believe the concept behind both these sets mechanically is the same... i suggest you take my opinion on this with a grain of salt though...

Well it is HEAPS better than my OEMs. When we took them out, I coud compress the fronts with my finger... since I am on Eibach lowering springs its a pretty stiff drive and i feel bumps - but cornering is like a hot knife on butter... no more bounciness when I hit a bump - its a firm good ride.

i have s teins with the illuminas set on 5 and is like an earthquake whenever i go in small potholes. dont get me wrong, the ride is great, especially in turns, but i hate it when i have to slow down because i cant avoid a pothole.

Try different settings, like 3-4 or 3-3!!!
Set on 5 is to harsh.

When adjusting your dampers, the rule of thumb is:

If it bounces too much, dial it up.
If it hits too hard, dial it down.

Start with the softest setting and see how it rides. Then, adjust from there. Try to pay attention to where the excess bounce or impact is coming from (front or rear) so that you can adjust accordingly.
