Quandry! In need of the Max nations help!

I put my 95 GLE in the care of my mechanic last week for a water pump & Thermo install and after removing my water he revealed a crack. I was not there to see it but he says there is a crack in my engine behind the pump where it mounts into the engine. She definitely is leaking from somewhere in that vicinity. Has anyone ever run into this problem before? I trust my mechanic but there is always a second opinion. My baby has over 234k on her. She isn't decked out in full gear straight factory but she'll run with the best of them. At least she did. MY QUANDRY "REPLACE THE ENGINE".
Should I or Not? Give me insight on your reasons.
I love Maxima's I have had three 83',87' and my 95. My money is not able to purchase a newer model yet and nothing tickles my inards like a Max. But my wife's '01 Altima just doesn't cut small, cute, no power...etc, etc. Appreciate everyones help.

What's a Thermo Install? How much will the repair cost? For me, IF the cost to repair the engine is about equal to what it would cost to buy AND install another engine, I'd go with replacing the engine. Since I'm in Raleigh too, would you be willing to tell me who you took the car to?

EDIT-It just came to me- Thermo Install= thermostat???
One more thing. Many people on here are gonan recommend getting an engine from a 5th Gen car. That might be something to consider as well.

Sounwoy:My mechanics name is Kevin and he works for Pro-Tire on Capital Blvd. He has been working on my car for years. He's always done right by me. Considering LKQ on Hwy. 70 in Clayton considering trying to pick up motor with tranny depending on the price. It's a u-pull-it salvage yard.
Godfather: Ever purchased an engine or know someone who has from www.car-parts.com before?
Konak85 what was the resolution for your situation?

A bad water pump can cause a coolant leak...

Can you take a picture of the damage and post it up here?

LKQ is where I had to get my second transmission from. Pray that they have ANY Maxima stuff. I went there last week to see if they had a third brake light or even the spoiler and they didn't have ANY Maximas, period. FWIW, there's another u-pull-it junkyard down the road, on 70 BUSINESS b4 u get to Smithfield. May want to check there as well.
