http://www.edgeracing.com/ is a good place to find cheap tires. i got a set of cooper zions 2xs and i LOVE them (only $78 a tire). their grippy as all h*ll and last awhile when just driving normally, oh and their great in the rain until they hit the ware bar. over all i give the cooper zion 2xs a 9.5 out of 10.

Go to www.tirerack.com and read about the tire tech. You'll see more detail about how rain performance, snow performance, and dry performance are tradeoffs, and how grip, tire wear, noise, and price are also tradeoffs. Pick a few tires (I suggest ultra high performance all season or high performance all season), and call the local shops to quote a price on them. I would not trust their recommendations, since these are mostly based on what they want to sell, not what you are really looking for.
Personally, I'm happy with my Falken Ziex ZE-512 that were around $100/ea installed. RS-As aren't bad, but since they are original equipment on some cars Goodyear has the prices jacked extra high.
IMO, cheaping out on tires is kinda silly. Unless your Max is a real pedestrian highway traveler, less than $400 total is going to get you hard, long lasting, poor gripping tires.

That Cooper tire is pretty good, but it's a summer tire. It'll be worthless in the snow.
The Falken Ziex ZE-512 is a good choice. You should also consider the Toyo Proxes 4, Continental ContiExtremeContact, Avon Tech M550, and Dunlop SP Sport A2.
Edgeracing.com is a great site for a great company. Go there for the Falkens or the Toyos. The rest are on Tire Rack.
BIG to the suggestion of not cheaping out on your tires. Never forget that your car depends on its tires to do EVERYTHING.

i buy used tires all the time...usually only from people I know...hell my Advans I bought used and are great.....i was just stating that they have used ones...and if i needed like one tire i wouldn't hesitate to get 1 form ebay for the right price of course

Yes the Ziex 512 is an all-season tire. They did reasonably well in some snow last year.
Of course, all rain or snow performance depends heavily on tread depth (tread wear). So I change my tires before they get to the legal limit - I won't let them get any lower than 1/16" from the wear bars.

if they are your all year tires, get an all season tire. tirerack.com is an awesome site with good prices, reviews and customer service. edgeracing.com has great prices too. check ebay for some tires as well. i got an incredible price off of there not to long ago.
stay away from used tires as you may be buying someone else's problems and it's not worth it.
on my stock rims, i have Yokohama YK420 (i don't think they make that exact tire anymore, but they have just changed the name.) they have been really good so far. good wet and dry handling.
on a side note, this will probably get moved to the Wheel and Tire section, as it should have been started there in the first place.

I'm also looking for some new tires, my current tires, Michellans, have no grip whatsoever, when I gun it I spin my tires all through first, 2nd, and chirp them into third. I live in Texas, so I think I should be ok with summer tires, as I won't have to deal with any snow.. just occasional rain here and there.. Any suggestions?
edit -> I'm currently leaning towards the Falken Fk452. anyone had any experience with those?

i like costco. they arent super cheap but their prices are fair and their tire replacement warrenty is the best ive ever encountered. they always replace tires pretty much no matter how they got messed up and the credit they give is excellent. theres nothing like getting 4 new michellin pilot sports for $30 each when the old ones have gone 25k miles and are cracking on the sidewall. thumbsup to costco for not being ****s about replacement.
