does anyone know if the ID plate that is on the tranny will tell you if you have a VSLD tranny? I just got one from carparts.com and I want to be sure that I was sent the right tranny, but cant tell by the picture in the stickies if the axle size is correct. I have a picture but dont know how to post unless its already online somewere.

is the size conciderably different from side to side? I cant see a big difference and its making me worry.

the driver's side axle seal is much larger on the LSD tranny.. roughly 3" to 1.5"

Yep that's the easiest way to tell. On a standard differential the axle seals are so close in size you would think they are the same. On an LSD the driver side seal is at least twice as big.

The ID plate is the cars VIN number, so that would tell you.

Thats my 01 VLSD
Obviously its the cleaner one.

Look in the hole for the axles. Do you see a metal bar running through the middle? If so, you got hosed.

I also got screwed. I was told by the seller it was a VLSD and found out when I got it that it wasn't. Unfortunately I needed a tranny ASAP so I didn't have the option of arguing with the guy or even waiting for him to send me the right one if he gave me that option.

Thank God! I did pay with a credit card...Im going to call them first to see if they will do the honorable thing and take it back including shipping cost....or locate me a VLSD and swap it out.

Reverse the payment with your credit card company. You've got a limitied amount of time to challenge it. The junk yard may just try to sting you out until it's too late to get your money back. But after you've taken care of it with the CC company, let the junk yard know what you did and let them suggest options for getting it right. And no reason you should have to pay for return shipping.

The metal bar seems to be in the old tranny. The dirty one, right?

The clean one is new one, correct? is the metal bar (from the spider gears) in there also?

How much have most of you spent on your VlSD trannys? 700-800 sound like a resonable deal for one with 80-90K?

I called the co i got them from and they are very cool about it and actually have my tranny sitting on the shelf. The shipping guy screwed up and grabbed the wrong one. They are paying for the shipping and swapping it out for free.

Thats good. At least they admitted that they screwed up... but I guess wait until you get the right one right.

I know, but they were very cool about it, and I actually found that they have several in stock and are willing to give me a deal on them if I purchase them in bulk. Not a bad price either so I started a thread in the classified section....but obviously am not going to get serious about offering this to anyone until I get one and have installed it to make sure they are selling a good product.
