Tachometer Dead. New ECM ?

The tach on my 1996 SE was on and off ever since I bought it about a year ago. Recently I have installed a grounding kit and now the tachometer is dead all the time. I checked the connection from ECM terminal 5 to w/g wire at the gauge cluster and it was fine. Then I checked the voltage at terminal 5 when car was running and it was 0 ( ~7V at idle according to the manual). Does it mean I need a new ECM to fix this tach problem ???

I replaced my tach when it began to fluctuate all over the place and it is fine now.

I don't think it the tach since there is no voltage on its input.

it's the tach unit itself. Mine does the same thing. (96 SE) It bounces around all over the place, and hardly even readds correctly when it does work right. You should get between 0 and 5 volts total for the tach from the ECU, depending on RPM. Have you looked up tachometer units? Way too much $$$$$ for me to even bother replacing it...and there are no Maximas in the junkyards around here

That's the thing. It doesn't show any voltage on ECM terminal that's supposed to feed the tach.
