If any of you fellown max owner/lovers have young ones that are still in a car seat that has the tether strap on top of it, there is a part you can purchase from the dealer and install on your rear speaker deck for the tether to attach too. The 5th gens i believe already come with them. On the 4th gen its just a small anchor point that bolts directly to the deck. If you look underneath in front of each speaker and right in the middle between them you will see a treaded nut....just drill up thru it with a smaller bit to clear the way for the achor point to bolt right in.

The part # is 88894-89900. Nomenclature just says "plate" but if you tell them its for the tether strap on a child seat most experienced parts personnel should know what you mean.

Again, it might seem trivial to some, but if it increases the safety of my childs car seat then its a good addition.

Hmmmm, could this be considered a mod? DDD

When I was a young lad, we didn't use child seats.

I survived.

My wife claims that the seat belts are better anchors for kids' seats, than the LATCH system. Don't know where she got the info but I do know pretty well how to get kids' seats into the Max, by now.

Put it in the middle and black out the rear windows. That's what I did. Its nice having the dark windows so the sun does not beat on my kid. 5% tint ftw

Years ago I searched for the part and came up empty. I totally didn't know what to call it. Instead, I took one from my Frontier.

Nice JS. My boys, 7 and 9, are out of car seats and in boosters now. In fact, really, my 9 year old doesn't even need anything any more, legally. But my 3 year old still uses a car seat. But I don't take them out in the Max any more so it doesn't really matter.

What did/do you guys do for the lower LATCH point? I used a tow ring grabbing on the the seat belt buckle loop. I can show a pic, if interested. I think they are still installed.

I use the stock seat belt on my 99. I somewhat prefer it to the lower latch anchors in our other (newer) vehicles. It's a pain to adjust the lower strap/belt on our car seats. Thankfully we don't have to remove the seats much, usually just to clean.
