Locking vs Non-Locking Tranny....?
I'm looking to see what kind of deals I can get on a tranny from car-parts.com and they have the option of Non-Locking tranny and Locking tranny. I believe that deals with the torque convertor but I'm not sure. What should I be looking for? Thanks.

If your getting an LSD tranny, you need an LSD driver side alxe, but you jsut said youll be looking for a non-locking tranny. Locking = LSD, non locking = no lsd...what the hell are you looking for?

I had it backwards. I apologize. I will be looking for a LSD tranny (locking tranny). Not sure why I had it backwards. Probably since I havnt dealt with tranny work before.
I've found a few on car-parts:
1999
Transmission
Infiniti I30 3.0,T,LOCKING DIF,80X18 97,000 06E169 $275.26
1998
Transmission
Infiniti I30 NICE 78,000 CE264 $300
I'd probably go with the 98 since it has fewer miles and is much closer to where I live.
So I need a driver's axle as well....I'm guessing that axle shaft is what I want?

Ok as for L locking axles:
1999
Axle Shaft
Nissan Maxima LH Fr Axl, AT, w/ABS, L, lckng- 042406 $90.31
1998
Axle Shaft
Infiniti I30 4DR,7-97,3.0L,AOD,AB S 63180G $85
1997
Axle Shaft
Infiniti I30 ASSEMBLY,DRIVERS SIDE FRONT,LIFETIME WARRANTY A E051 $75
1999
Axle Shaft
Nissan Maxima 11-98,3.0L,ATOD,CK LOCKING A 050042 $45
Sry for posting so many. I just want to see what you guys think. Obviously I want a low price since it'll be $$ to have them installed. I would go either with the $45 or the 97 axle with the lifetime warranty. Some say w/abs some dont. I have abs in my 98 SE so do I need an axle that says w/abs, is it just put in the description? I dont know about that kind of stuff.

So I'm going to the tranny shop on friday I think, to see how what the actual damage is in the tranny. Depending on price, it'll be fixed or I'll buy a LSD setup. Not sure if you guys used car-part but you think the parts are going to be good quality or what? I dont want to put down $300 on a locking tranny and have it crap out in a little while...

i can garuntee a rebuild will cost more than getting a tranny from the junkyard n tossin it in. mine cost nearly $2000 to rebuild. i tryed getting one from the junkyard but luckily i wasnt paying cause my parentals didnt like that idea. dont know why, i was just tryin to save them money...oh well

I don't know why rebuilding a manual tranny would cost so much if it's already out of the car - I charge less than $500. I recommend just doing bearings and seals unless there is reason to believe the synchros are damaged.

Rebuild kit is only $600, and it's pretty simple to rebuild an auto, assuming you have a service manual for it. I've done a few AXODs, A4LDs, and a TH400, it's just following steps really, or doing it from memory.
But yea, getting shops to do it will get expensive. Almost up to the price of a new RE4FO4A from a dealer.

I didnt realize you were looking for an auto, I thought you wanted a 5speed. I have a 2k1 auto with VLSD for sale, but Im looking for a little more than thoes you found at the junk yard, since Id have to ship it.
#21
You said $550 right Vlasic? I'll have to check to see how the shipping is for the others. They are only about 70-90 miles away from me so shipping shouldnt be that bad. May even pick them up. I'll let you know tho because I have an axle in CT that I could pick up for $50.
I still need to know about the abs thing on the axle shaft. I dont know if the axle shaft most have something specific for the abs or not.

Damn I totally forgot I already told you I had a trans.
As for the abs thing. It really shouldnt matter, as far as I know, the only difference is the ABS ring on the axle. If you dont have abs you can just pop that ring off, but you should get that confirmed, not 100% on that.
