True Yellow Foglight Conversion [Mini Write-up]
#46
TLMNICK what is the longest you have driven with the fog lights on using the 100w bulbs. I thought I read that 100w bulbs will melt things.
I have a question on sealing the light back up. I have GE Silicone II 100% silicone sealant. Says it's for applications not exceeding 400F. Has anyone ever used this?

yellow foglights
i know this question was directed to someone else but in my experience since doing the conversion and running 100w bulbs the yellow capsules tend to break about every year or so, depends on how much you run your fogs. i have 130w bulbs but i'm afraid that i'll melt some stuff.

The capsules are still perfectly intact, and I've only changed the 100W bulbs once. The fogs are used Every night, when its stormy out during the day, and at dusk.
And for sealing the foglights, I didnt actually open them up. I was able to pull the metal piece out (that holds the bulb). I stuck the yellow capsule to the metal bulb holder with high-temp silicone.

The black silicone that I used in sealing them back up adds a nice touch because it adds a little smoked look. My set of capsules was not the usual set but I made it work. My jb weld disappeared so I used loctite extreme repair. It's insane stuff. I'm interested in doing all the other lighting mods including hids in the future.

3000k hids are not as yellow as the capsules. Just 3000k hid's omit a golden shade. Im running 3000k h3's and 9006 capsules. Its really bright. I got my capsules off ebay. Hidtech wasnt replying back to me.

Iam trying to contact the seller who has them and seeing if he has any left. I found mine on E-Bay, i think $37 shipped. In the filter i put in "yellow capsules" . If you wanted to get the HID's, they cost $$$$$. For some time and effort you can do them yourself, or send me your fogs and capsules and i'll do them for you...........

Wow, why has no one else thought of that? Was it pretty easy to pry the metal bulb holder off the housing? What kind of tool did you use to do it? I think when I get around to repairing mine I will try to do what you did. It would save SO MUCH trouble with opening and resealing the housings! Hopefully the silicon holds better than JB weld, which just doesn't seem to bond well to these parts.

There were 4 left when I bought mine. There's one left: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-93...Q5fAccessories
Not bad for $25 shipped.

I have the larger yellow capsules (9004), i have no problems with them other than they break about every year due to the higher wattage.

I just used a pick, and a needle nose pliers to get it out. The H3 capsules were a perfect fit, though you still have to be careful when putting it back together. The high-temp silicone works perfectly. Its been over 2 years, and its still good. I was never interested in putting HIDs in my fogs...its just easier to replace a standard H3 bulb.
I put HIDs in my 95 max...but since I hardly drive it, i wasnt too concerned about ballasts burning out quick.

ok well ii see alot of people doing this yellow capsule thing alot work but would bee much easy just to change the white light bulb to a yellow one i wan to know if someone done this before and how it looks and also did a little search and i see that the 96 infiniti qx4 and is300 has yellow fog light are these capsules or light bulbs not 100% sure what they are but can any body confirm this and were to get them other then online

No "yellow bulb" that I've ever seen has put out a nice true yellow. Yellow halogen bulbs IMO just look like old faded stock bulbs.
And the IS300, and Infiniti QX-4 have yellow projector lenses i believe. I took a set of fogs from an old Lexus ES300, and found that it was the projector lens itself that was yellow, and not a capsule.

How is hidtech for capsules? Are they fast with shipping?
When I did the first fog light I used the wrong glue and it ruined my fog light. The capsule fell off and the inside of the entire fog light is hazy. I took it apart and I believe I will be able to fix it but I need a new capsule now. I left it out and I think someone in the house dropped it because I was told "hey, that capsule is cracked..." I can't find them on ebay so I was thinking of other sources.
