heavy shaking when accelerating

Hi all, Three days ago I asked my mechanic to change my right axle because the CV boot was tore. Two days later I was on the throughway driving back to my school and after about 100 miles of fast cruising, my car started to shake above the speed of 65 or when ever I press down the accelerator. The whole sensation was like going through a rough road except I could tell the road was newly paved. I slowed down to 60 miles an hour and made it to my apartment because I had a paper and presentation due the next day. I check the wheel all the nuts were tightened properly and my handbrake wasn't on. The car still shakes really bad when I floor the accelerator. Any suggestions?

I think I trust my mechanic because I've had a lot of work on this car done by him.

I want to able to drive beyond 60 without my car falling apart

Sounds like the inner cv joint is junk. The new axle you had installed may be defective. The vibration under accl is a classic sign of a failing inner cv joint.

I had new set of Toyo Spectrum ties for fronts that are less than 6 months old, my rear tires are less than a year old. I don't think I've lost the weights on my wheels.

I'll buy the junk cv joint argument.

has nothing to do with the fact that after changing an axle............you need an alignment. buy it if you wish.

I do believe an alignment might had been needed because I was changing an axle after all. But I've done changing axles w/o alignment before and it never shaked this bad. Also I think I meant to say I didn't think my wheels lost their balance after 100 miles on the throughway... but your points are taken.

I find it hard to belive that an alignment issue is going to cause the shaking issue. Granted over time uneven tire wear could cause a vibration, but it's only been 100 miles. Tire and alignment should not be affected by accel.

tires could be cupped and then it would vibrate, but constantly and make a light thump

if the problem only happens under accell then it is a bent axel, i have seen it b4 on a few cars. it is rare but it does happen..

how many miles on the car? there is an engine treatment you can do (well, your mechanic can do...) its pretty expensive though. I forget the exact name but its something like Wynns injector cleaner. its in a black bottle with yellow label. the reason i said your mechanic can do it is cause its only available to professionals. you need a machine in order to run it through your engine. what it does is it breaks all the carbon out of your engine and shoots it out the tailpipe. costs around $170 to have done i believe. i was lucky and got to do it for free cause my school can get it and im paying 30grand to go there lol. it deffinatly helps smooth out my acceleration (car doesnt shake as bad anymore) and my throttle response is much better too...just something to consider. cause i mean, it might be something else.

i took my car to midas and they changed the front axels. i have this problem, but its not a large shaking noise. i think they are screwing me over because i had it checked on 3 times and still no fix, and its pulling to the left... i just did an alignment and its still pulling to the left but less shaking (alignment done somewhere else because midas sucks).

they wanted money and my problem was transmission related so they said we will fix all the other problems, i get it back and have to take it to the tranny place because they didnt say it was tranny related issue when they should have said get that fixed first! but since they wanted money they did the work and made it seem like that would fix my problem "mabe". arg.

then i goto annother midas and they tell me nothings loose at all, nothing is wrong, needs an alignment - bs, the meicanic comes in and says, drivers side is a bit loose. so i take it to the place that installed the axels and said nothing was wrong and made every possible excuse to tell me everything was fine with the axels, but everything else needs to be replaced ie brakes and tires rotated etc etc, ohh get this a tape stuck in the tapedeck is causing the noise im hearing too!, wtf, dont goto midas for anything.

midas doesnt even care about the warrantee.

Go back to your mechanic.
I'm sure it's still under warranty with only 100 miles on it.

Possably a wheel weight OR a belt in one of the front tires. Jack it up ,spin one at a time and check for out of round

If the alignment of the wheels do not do it, brace yourself, check your rear engine mount. And heck passenger side one to. When those were it can affect driveability at higher speeds.
