Normal or bizarre? Revs increase when steering wheel is turned

Lately, I've noticed that when I turn my wheels while stopped, the engine revs, like from 750 to 1,100RPMs.

Why does it do that?

The power steering pump does that.

Because it takes a ton of power to overcome the static friction that tires have (w00t physics) when 3000 pounds of metal is pushing them against the ground.

normally i would say this is perfectly normal, BUT 1100rpm WTF!? It's only supposed to increase the rpms by maybe 100-200rpms at most.

I should add that the surge only occurs when the wheel comes almost to the end of the turning circle on either side.

lol you should have started of with that...TOTALLY NORMAL! Technically this should happen on every single car with power steering.

Thats bad physics because it's still static friction when the car's rollin. Only in a skid does it become kenetic friction, still static friction of rubber on pavement is 1.0 and kenetic is .9.. not much difference. Also it's only 60% of that 3100 lbs. on the front wheels.

It's actually the IACV that does it to compensate for the higher load on the power steering pump.

Well I never got very good grades in physics.

Not quite. The motor won't necessarily stall, but the revs will drop.
