Tighten your throttle cable

I did my O2 sensors this weekend and while I was under the hood I noticed that my throttle cable had a lot of play. Got out a 14mm wrench, loosened the lock nut and tightened the other nut until there was no play.

The throttle definately has a better feel (not sloppy) and my take offs are much smoother with the stick.

Just make sure you don't tighten the cable too much as it will keep the throttle open slightly if you do.

Have fun streching out the cable now that the pedal wont hit the stop on the floor.

I'm interested in this fix as my cable has lots of free play, they do stretch. Do you have a photo (could you post) where you tightened the cable?

I have done it and there is no difference in anything but that 1st tiny bit of play. If you jam down on the pedal with all the slack gone you risk snapping the cable. I know its unlikely you'd push it down that hard, but over time you will strech it out. The you will go back and tighen it up and over time you'll need a new cable.

If its really loose to begin with and the throttle plate wont open 100% then you can adjust it. Best way to do it is press the pedal to the floor (hitting the stop), then confirming the throttle plate is in fact wide open.

I didnt mean to attack you, its just that I have heard this being done over and over when it really doesnt do anything good for you.

I've owned my car for over 2 years and have never had to jam the pedal to the floor. The car is not raced, just a daily commuter. Plus I'm older than most of you guys and don't floor it every time a Civic passes me.

I definately like the feel of the pedal more and I can always adjust it back.

Hell,
If I owned a Fiat 750 (cc), with 34 hp (very popular car in 70s-90s in Europe), I'd still jam that pedal...
The fact that it's not a race car has nothing to do with the fact that you can or can't have fun with it.
Trust me, I am older then a lot of people on Earth, so I know what I'm talking about...

Love? No, its just that.... there is this sense of animal instinct to show civics their place... Took quite awhile for me to overcome this animal instinct, now everyone passes me and it becomes the norm... The urge does come back at times.

it's really not even worth it to race cuz all you're proving is you won with 2 extra cylinders... worse case scenario the guy in the civic has a swap and you actually lose...

IMO its not the fun in beating the car neccesarily. It's showing the drivers just how retarded they are.

Well isn't this opinion unbiased. Then the maxima owner could say, "but your car is like 400 lbs. lighter than me." Then the civic guy says, "but you have a 1.4 liter displacement advantage." It can go back and forth like that for days. Run what ya brung...

i dont get it either..... some chick tried to race me and lost the other day. She was driving a mazda protoge with full exhaust and intake. She stayed with me till about 3/4 way through second. After that i walked her all the way to 120. I have a 97 max w/ypipe and intake, no cat. She said she's running about 160hp. I guess i'm putting out 205

Have you ever driven on a public roadway before?

Example: Semi is not paying attention and you have room in front of you to prevent a.) your car and b.) you, from becoming two-dimensional.

Example: In the case of automatics, it may be the only way to get a sure kickdown as soon as you need it.

Example: You start moving casually from a green light and someone runs the red, you are more than halfway through but the rear door is about to take 4,000lbs (average 2007 MY vehicle weight) @ 60mph.

Example: I was actually driving UNDER the speed limit when a red 3000GT tried to make it across all lanes (I believe a van blocked me from his vision) and avoided being t-boned by some f'uckface by speeding up.

Your guess is just that, a guess.

You are probably more around 170-175whp.
