In defense of altezzas, though you may not be able to tell from the picture, there is a red reflector, it really is hardly on the side though, the center part of the outer circle is actually a reflector, from the side you get a little reflection from the edge of the red, but i dont think it is a whole lot

Black-Outs

Well, scientifically speaking, the beam impulse reflects upon the lower road and well as the driver. These reflect that the the driver is GAY and/or NEEDS MENTAL HELP. But the are seemingly acceptable on a black car.

I'm still using the stock light wattage. I applied two light coats of paint. On a sunny day, you can still clearly see the outline of the taillight housing along with the colors red, amber, and clear (just darker than stock). Lighting and reflection from the side is nearly the same as stock.

The real question here is "Is it legal?" Hell NO!!! But this is one of those mods that if you do right, they will never know. Tampering with the factory lighting system is a NO NO in every state I'm sure. However, if a cop pulled you over and said that your tails looked too dark, he'd be hard pressed to fine you because the lighting is nearly the same as stock and it looks factory. Taillight covers are easy to pick out because they are extremely dark, the light is affected, and it's clear that they are velcroed on.

Dave
Thanks
I had thought the DOT was a Fed agency...

But this only makes it more of a PITA.
Well, most of my driving is done in CT,
so I guess I'll be trying to track down the staute
[or is it just a "regulation"?] at the CT DOT.

"he'd be hard pressed to fine you because the lighting
is nearly the same as stock and it looks factory"

I think he'd have a hard time unless the law in whatever
state I'm maybe getting this theoretical ticket in has very specific regs.

I posted a plea to lawyers
[http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....7&goto=newpost]
and HoJo gave me the Kansas regs which require that they be
"plainly visible from 1000 ft."
Well how the hell do you define plainly visible?

Re: Well..

Funny you don't like sunroof deflectors. I'm OK with them, in fact, I have one I guess its like rear spoilers, there's one camp that likes 'em, and another that doesn't. The thing is, the deflector and spoiler are functional. If you like to cruise at hi speed, the deflector/spoiler are definitely beneficial.

Wanna know what's really funny?? Those guys who have sunroof deflectors, BUT NO SUNROOF!

First of all, I think they look sharp on a black car. I love the look of everything being body color. Just as I would looooove to have all-clear taillights for my white car! So, yes, I see what your saying - they do look kinda cheap - especially when they leave the GTO sticker on there - but I think it's acceptable on a black car. Now, my beef is with those stuuuuuuuuupid sunroof deflectors! It's like there is some law somewhere that if you have a Maxima and a sunroof, you must buy a cheesey wind deflector. I really don't get that one...

Im too lazy to read this whole thread to see if someone said this already but...up here in Canada blackout headlamps are actually illegal.
