Freakin' PCV Valvue - Suggestions?

Hey, Im just in the process of trying to replace 12 year old PCV valve. I simply cannot get the hose off. I have tried pulling on it with pliers, and lightly loosening the seal with small screwdriver, but dont want to get too rough in fear of tearing the small rubber hose. Any suggestions on how to get this thing off?? THANKS!

Well, I finally got it off by unscrewing the bracket that holds down the metal hose right there. But once I got the new one in, while trying to put the hose back on, the new PCV broke in half...piece of garbage. While I had it apart I started the car to see if the PCV had a vacumn. However, the car wont even stay running while the system is disconnected. I assume my current PCV is working a.o.k.

by current do you mean the broken one? if it shuts off immediatley without the PCV valve there is something wrong, because it should be "struggling to stay on (as if the MAX had a carburator and it was BAD)" and you should feel vacuum from the hose, get a new PCV valve and when you put it in gently TAP it down with a phillips. you might wanna spray some TB cleaner in the PCV port and try to clear the pipe of any clogs with a clothes hanger or something (IF you don't feel vacuum from it)

I just put the old one back in and put the car back together. The car does not stay running with the hose off the PCV. I guess since it runs fine connected with the old PCV, the old PCV is still good, right?

shake the pcv if you hear no rattling, its definately time to change it. Plus if its definately 12 years old (I assume your exhageratting) its only a $3 part.

It might be not too bad, but anyway get a new pcv from the stealership, it costs $8-12 there. The pcv that broke was not from the dealership ?
