OT: Why don't you guys do Phanton Grip? That's what I'm doing, Viscous LSD's are a POS IMO. They were only intended to work for about 60k miles then they largely function as open-diff due to them being liquid type, rather than mechanical.

I'm not aiming for LSD. My thread was hijacked. And yeah, I considered phantom, but long term budget and reliability is priority at the moment. Maybe later I'll go back for a Phantom.

Time for me to throw this thread even farther off-topic.
Is the dealer the only place you can purchase transmission internals. I need to rebuild my 5Spd. I think I have a few chipped gears and my synchros are garbage after 150K.

Done. Swapped out my 4th gen non-lsd for a 5th gen non-lsd. Only 1 modification needed: grab the VSS from your 4th gen. The 5th gen has a cover plate where the VSS needs to go.
Shifts are better, synchros seem to be smoother. No more bucking, even with my ACT.
Yes, the shifter position sits farther rearward. As others have said, 1st, 3rd, and 5th have the shifter pointed straight up. No big deal, still works.

I appologize. I assume a STS will shorten the "throw" but not correct the rearward shifter placement... you're saying it'll position the shifter farther forward into a more normal position?

I rely on core trannys. Just keep gear pairs together.
