Best way to dampen sound in trunk ???
#1
anyone have any ideas to kill the trunk flexing and rattles cause by subwoofers?? Dynamat alone hasn't done the job...the trunk flexes and all types of thing are going on underneath the car. I've heard of some type of expanding foam, but no one at shops know what I'm talking about...HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Dynamat/Spray will work to a point.
I used about 20-30^2 odd feet of b-quiet (It's a .com on the web) on the entire bottom side of my trunk and it stopped nearly all the rattling coming from the underside of the car. I also switched from dual 15"s to 12"s, and started firing them backwards instead of upwards, which also helped a little. Most rattling has decreased enormously, and the only other modification done was a little bit of b-quiet to the lid, and sides, and an entire can of Rockford Fosgate Noisekiller sprayed in the inside of the trunk lid.
I'm running 2 12" Shocker's (www.termpro.com --- SPL sub from the state) off a Rockford Fosgate bd1000a1, so it's enough to peg off a good 145+ dB on a test tone. When you do it at higher frequencies though (60+hz) the weather stripping on the interior of the trunk moves slightly and a high pitched "scream" occurs because of air leaking. If this is the flexing your talking about, the only real thing you can do is get better sealing on it. If it's just a rattle, look for brands like Lightning Audio Spray-foam, Noisekiller, Roadkiller, etc. Good luck.

Damping sound in trunk
Dynamat worked well for me... But you have to add multiple layers...
If you have the standard grade, you have to put on something like 3-4 layers in the problem areas... If you have the ultimate "Extreme Grade", then one or two layers should be fine.
It is very important to make the surface very clean and adhere the stuff with a heat gun... You must have maximum contact area... For example, you should be able to see clearly all the ridges in the metal surfaces of the trunk even after the dynamat is applied...

Re: Damping sound in trunk
Whats the big deal about the trunk rattling? I really dont think the maxima trunk rattles that badly. I have 2 15s with 1000 watts behind them in my trunk. You shoulda heard the old 90 Camry I used to have, its trunk was 23x worse for rattles!

Hey ereet! What do you think of B-Quiet?
I've used Dynamat for a while, and am thinking of trying it. I sent away for a sample over a month ago and still haven't seen it. I know its a lot cheaper in price, but what about quality?
