Brakes making a HOOUUUMMMmmm sound at low speeds.
Hi all,
I've searched the boards and found a few threads on this problem, but none of them seem to advocate a solution. Basically, my problem is the same as many - at speeds lower than 15 kph, my brakes make a resonation sound that can only be type-described as "HOOOOOUUUUMMMMMmmmm". There's also a much less noisy squeaking happening that's proportional in tone to the speed of the car.
Took it in to be looked at, the squeal is apparently a dry hub seal, and there's not much I can do about that. I think it's related to the warm / dry weather we're having up here.
As for the hooouuumm, the brakes are at 60-70%, the rotors seem fine (regular rust and pits, but nothing on the braking surface itself). During a tire rotation I took off the rust and lubricated with WD40 which helped for a while, but now it's back with a vengeance.
I've read about brake silencers ("Blue goo") - is this the way to go? Any tips on brands and application?
Thanks all!

The sound you describe sounds more like a tire going bad... check the condition of your tire at the corner of the car that is making the noise...
I doubt if the CV joints are failing so early in the life of your car plus it would make a lot of noise when you do hard turns.
Dunno about "hub seals" though... don't know what that is...

Bad tires?
Thanks for the response Chunger.
The tires have plenty of tread left, and the sound is only apparent when the brakes come on. The noise only happens when I'm braking and happened before and after my tire rotation.
No noise when I'm turning.

Had same problem
I took it to a nissan mechanic (not at a dealer) and he located the sound to be from the rear/left tire area. It happened that the sound was coming from the brake sytem (I forgot specifically from where), so he took the caliper off and put some grease in that part. after that no more HOUMMMM
