1998 I30 Stalls Within 2 Seconds During Cold Start

Starts up every time without a problem, but stalls every time within few seconds (during cold starts only), if I give it gas for about a minute, the problem goes away. My guess is the MAF sensor, cuz I read someone else having the same symptom somewhere. Has anyone else experience this?

VERY much like this guy's:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=505888

More info for my problem:
- Automatic
- 100K miles
- takes just 1-2 cranks to start, very easy
- No CEL/SES
- Loud squeel(squeek?) noise, squeels faster as I push for more gas (as RPM rises)
- Noise gone and problem gone after I push the gas for 30-60 seconds
- Idles around 600 RPM in "D" afterwards, very smooth, drives just like new

Check your fuel pressure prior to and during start up.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try to find where the coolant temp sensor is located.

i30ds: I think you posted instructions on how to check the fuel pressure from my other thread (when my 2000 I30t stalled), so I'll check that out.

It doesn't seem like my I's like the winters, sigh...

Clean the throttle body and IACV before you do anything else.
That usually clears up idle issues as yours.

I guess we are in similar but different boats, my '98 I30 just stalls right away, it doesn't even give a fight to stay alive, just stalls after a perfect (cold) start.

Thanks for all the tips guys, keep it coming.

well no i had the problem u described just two days ago, one user ,L0R1DA, told me its a PCV valve and it should be replaced, im going to take his word for it and do that hopefully within a week or two

the weird thing, and what leads me to believe its an air presure/intake problem is that when u start the car as it immediately starts to die (rpm droppping within like 1 second) u hit the gas slightly and she remains at normal idle rpm, its like she needs a little push to start intaking the air or something, this is weird, but i will visit a dealership within 2 weeks

Had the same problem, turned out to be my coolant sensor. It was throwing a CE code though, so check yours.

When you first start the car and the engine is cold, are the radiator fans on?

I had a simular problem it was with inconsitant stalling and sometimes no starting... turned out to be a broken wire that when cold contracted slightly and no longer made contact. The wire had something to do with my fuel pump I believe, i would get into more detail but a friend fixed it for me so I never really got a chance to see the nitty gritty of the whole ordeal.

The carstarts every time if you step on the gas when cold
work fine if it's hot no check engine light no codes not the iac cleaned that good on gas runs fine after about 2sec when cold.strong gas smell and it not leaking anywhere that i can see. The car floods after it has been sitting for awhile you can smell the gas before you start it.
