have a problem with my RPM

i had a 96 Maxima with 76k and i had it for about four months before i was rearended into the guy in front of me both of the other vehicles were sitting higher up than my car so instead of bumper to bumper i got my deck lid smashed in and my hood crunched up on the driver side it was declared totalled and got parted out. i liked my maxima so i got a new to me maxima its a 97 with 119k however if i'm late i have a tendency to put my foot into and get goin on ym new car however it redlines at about 7000 rpm's then bounces till i let off (or i guess the engine blows never held it long enough to find out) this never happened with my other maxima and i was worried that maybe the previous owner had messed with the gear ratios or something could any one give me some possible explanations as to what might be happening? (dang that was long)

Engine rev limiter. ECU cuts fuel to the engine at like 6800 RPM to avoid damaging the engine. Perfectly normal. Sounds like you need to do some more reading.

True fuel cut is @ 6550. Most if not all tachometers are off.

Is it bad for the engine to bring it up to its limited rpm? I have found the approx. cutoff (almost 7000) but will it hurt the engine in the long run?

Man this thread is all over the place.

Stock ECU will limit the engine to 6550 despite what the tach shows you.

VQs on this forums rev to 6500-7000-7200-8000rpm.

No reason to really wring out a stock engine as the power falls off around 5800 anyway.

In cold weather, or even when the engine is cold, is it bad to run it hard (ie upwards of 6000 rpms?) I know it warms up the car quicker on those cold New England mornings, but is it going to damage the car?

Its best to not drive it hard when its cold, wait till it warms up to be all over the place with the revs. I try to keep it under 2,500-3,000 till its warm.
Sure it'll warm it up quicker, but just keep it calm till the engine is warm.

lock this thread before we get more questions about revs from newbies.
