center cap problem

i cant get these center caps i bought onto my 16" se rims. they are factory nissan maxima center caps with 9 clips on the back to pop into the rim. no matter how hard i try to push them in they just wont pop in. did i buy the wrong center caps? the part number on the back is 40342 40u10. i can upload pics if that would be more helpful.

no. i have a 99 with 16's.

as for those centercaps, those arnt what mine look like. so maybe you did buy the wrong ones? those look bigger, bulkier, heavier, and metal. mine are light plasticy junkboxes that get the job done for a cheap price to nissan.

but did you try just setting them in and wacking them with the palm of your hand? thats what i had to do with mine. also if they look like theyre the right size...they are probably the right ones. flip one around to see if the face of it fits in the hole. if it does, im willing to bet yu just need to wack 'em a little harder.

Those caps look like my 15" honeycomb center caps, from my stock 96 GLE. If you've tried and they don't fit, well, they don't fit. They're probably different.

mine are cheapy plastic too. i just tried to set them in and smash it with the palm of my hand but i cant even get them to just sit and set in there. i did what you said and tried to put the face of it into the hole, it almost fit but didnt. im starting to think these are for a 3rd gen or sumthin else. i saw someone else talking about the 9 prong back to the cap fro his 3rd gen and thats what mine has. also on the back of the center cap to the left theres 92, 93,94, and 95 with an arrow pointing to 95. on the back right theres numbers 1-11 with an arrow pointing to 11. if anybody wants to really help me out and pop there center cap off and tell me if theres says the same or different maybe i can figure this out. also send me a pic of the back of the cap or ill put a pic up and we can compare the rim size and the 9 prongs or whatever.

im gunna guess that 92,93,94,95 are the years. which means they are the wrong ones. not sure what the 1-11 means.

The 15" 95-96 SE (97-99 GLE) rims (also called "sawblades") and the 95-96 GLE rims (also called "honeycombs") shared a metal or metallic centercap. The 16" 97-99 SE rims feature a plastic centercap that is not interchangable.
