Need Help Changing Battery

My battery died in my 99 Maxima. I got a new one from AutoZone but I am having a problem when I try to install it. When I hook up the positive and negative terminals to the new battery, the alarm goes off. I tried to turn off the alarm with the remote but that doesn't work. I know the remote works because the doors lock and unlock. It continues to go off until I take off the connectors from the terminals. Is there a fuse or something I should pull before I change the battery?

Do I leave the key in the door while changing the battery? How do I reprogram the remotes?

no. change the battery and unlock the drivers door or trunk with the key. that should turn off the alarm. to reprogram the remote, put it in and out of the ignition 10 times. the lights will blink once. at that point turn the key to the "on" position. then hit the "unlock" button on the remote. I havent done this in a while so it may be 7 times in the ignition and the "lock" button but as soon as you see the light blink turn the ignition to "on" and hit either of those buttons. if the unlock doesnt work, try it again with the lock button.

Aftermarket alarm system? The OEM alarm doesn't act like that when a battery is replaced.

you need to close the hood, scream out some naughty words, then go grab a cold one, try it again.
