I already posted this in the stereo section but no replies, so I am going to post here, hoping for some help......I can get a Bose head unit out of a 2K Max for next to nothing, (guy replaced it with after market right after buying the car so it has no hours to speak of on it) and wondered if it would fit into my 96SE Max. (my stock one is fried) It's double din like all the rest but I don't know if it will plug right up. I don't want to have to do wiring mods if I can help it. Does anyone know if it will work or not? I would just go after market but the car is on permanent loan to my daughter (hope to get it back someday!!) BUT she does not like the car looking modded AT ALL so I am trying to stick with factory equipment......
Thanks in advance,
John

totally different shape. not sure about the plugs but if i rememebr right they are now diffrent also. did your car have Bose factory? You know you can use a non-Bose in a Bose car. The only time there is a problem is using a Bose head unit in a non-Bose vehicle.

if you can get it for next to nothing why dont you just buy it then? if it doesnt work you can just turn around and sell it.

Yea, it came with Bose, how diff. are the shapes? I mean is it more curved top to bottom cause that is how it looked in the picture....
What will a non bose head unit sound like plugged into a bose system? Is it a direct plug in or will wires have to be cut/modded.
Thanks for the quick replys

A non-bose H/U will be louder than a Bose H/U as you are amplifying an amplified signal. for the 4th gens it is a direct replacement (you have to supply power to one of the wires on the cars harness that is the remote wire for your bose amps. as for the 2000+ Max's they are very different if I rememebr right. You are right about it being narrow on the bottom and wide on top and there is also a facial angle. Our radios are rectangular in shape with a flat face.
