I commute 32 miles each way to work. All last week, I never got above 55mph and/or 2000RPM at any time. I did a lot of coasting slowly down hills in neutral, etc.

You have to drive SLOWLY to really save gas.

Most tanks/weeks, I get around 26mpg.

I just drive normal, no grandma driving or racer driving. In the months when it isn't cold, I get 23-24 mpg, in the winter months I get 19-20 mpg.

I've tried grandma driving and the best I got was 26 mpg which was 3/4 city and 1/4 highway. So I'm proud of my car.

my record for almost all highway driving was 29 mpg going at an average speed of 65 mph. That was with me and my family.

I need to try that some time. I am guessing I can get pretty close to that. My last all highway trip I got 30 mpg and that was with a passenger and luggage. I was going about 75-80 mph the whole time.

That is nice. I have a friend with a '96 in GREAT disrepair and he has hit 500 twice. I have only managed to do 420-430 with my VERY maintained '98 .

Yea, my dad's 97 GLE that is not maintained all that well, and running on 87 octane gets much better mileage then me. I've stopped trying at this point, it's a lost battle. He doesn't use much pedal though.

I've gotten a few tanks over 30 before, but always followed by something around 25. I suspect this is from one gas pump filling more than another, so mileage of a single tank is not nearly as accurate at 5 tank average.

I track my fuel usage and I average 25.5mpg. I only fill with 89 octane, and a good part of my drive is 70-80mph. No doubt, keeping it under 60 helps a lot.

wow you guys are killing what my car is getting.

On my last 2 tanks i averaged 18.5 and 19.8 mpg, thats with 30% highway and 70% city. each tank had a 120 mile round trip that was 50-65 mph, and 15 miles each way to work every day, and some misc city driving.

I just bought this car tho, so maybe the fuel sys/ injector cleaner im using is starting to work. both tanks were with 93 octane and lucas Fuel sys cleaner.

Also it is very cold here so i have been letting the car warm up in the morning. Maybe its time to check the codes and see if i need to replace my KS.

I once got 35.1 MPG my friend mentioned drafting trucks to get better gas mileage I thought he was full of crap so I tried it. I filled up drove 150 on the Ohio turnpike about 115mi of that drafting behind 2 different trucks one going about 70 and the other going about 75 the one was also a moving van. I reached my destination and filled up with 4.3 gallons of gas. It actually worked I usually see 26-28 on the highway and I average about 24 mpg. I would never do it again it was good to know though.

Some of those trucks really do move and it DOES work, but you look like a d1ck when you are doing it.

Drafting trucks does work, but I would hesitate to call the 35.1mpg accurate. I find a pump will fill about +/- 1/2 gallon from the last one, so if you're only filling 4 gallons there will be a lot of error.

It's kinda unrealistic, but running a full tank drafting (within reason - you don't need to be within 30ft to get the benefits) would really tell the difference.

Although the gas you save might be lost on cracked windshields.

I would feel weird going 55 on the highway with cars blowing by me at 70. I'd be like, "Yo, I'm in a Maxima for petes sake" *hard acceleration*..."YEAH! What now!?"

Then there is something definitely wrong with your car, or you let it idle for hours on end.

17 gallons is a lot to put in. I usually put in around 14.5 so as to not stress the fuel pump. The tank is 18.5 IIRC.

I've been religiously keeping track of my fuel consumption using fueleconomy.gov
my lowest has been 20.2 mpg at about 50/50 hiway city and 29.3 mpg at about 70/30 hiway city. I hardly drive more than 75 to 80mph on the hiway.

Front bank O2 sensor is bad + Evap code. Let's just say I drive aggressively and like to rev-match. I almost WISH my KS were bad.

However, I get low-mid 20s on highway trips.
