cry02 kit worth it?

Anyone know much about the new cryo2 kits? seems kinda neat and less..ummm..destructive maybe, than nitrous. What kinda of gains should be expected?

I can't imagine that this does that much. I would guess that it may give you a little boost in power, but not for long, you need a lot of C02 to produce that much cooling effect for more than a minute or so. It prolly works a lot better on a FI car... prolly for running 1/4 mile...I don't know what you have done to your car, but if it were me, there's many things I could find to increase power for the same price.

Yeah, they work. Practically, I would say no. With 2-3 20oz CO2 tanks, it would give you a substantial ammount of cold air. Cheap to refill too. I guess, I mean, idk, its pricey. CO2 is extremely cold(like as cold as -100 deg F), so just a little, like a 1:5 CO2:air ratio would reduce the temps. So, you could do some math. Ill get back to you on that.

Edit: The boiling point of CO2, the temp at which it changes from a liquid to a gas is -109.3 deg F. Thats cold. Be back with some more info.

Alrighty, more info. Gotta love chem. Anyway, the COP of cooling, the (Tcold)/(Thot-Tcold). So, in K well call the CO2 195K, and the air temp(80deg F) 300K. So, we say 195/300-195. So, the COP is 1.85, I think. From my quick researching, that means that for every amount of cold put into the air it takes away 1.85 of that same unit of heat. So, if you had a 1:1 ratio or CO2 to air, and your air was 80 deg, then its a matter of finding the meeting point in the middle. Somewhere in the negatives like -40 I think?

But think about it, sure we want negative air temps, right? Cool the engine while were at it. The ammount of air to get a 1:1 ratio for a second it tremendous, especially at WOT. So, youre looking at at more of a 1:10 ratio(I dont know, just a guess). So, then you would only cool 1/10th of the air to that - temp(theoretically). So at a 1:10 ratio, you would I think bring your temps down to about 45 deg F. That is not figuring in the ammount of air going by, the size of your CO2 tanks, the rate of releasing the CO2, etc...lots of stuff to calculate.

That probably all wrong, but I tried. Probably used the wrong formula or something. Haha.

Edit: Just relized that my formula, I needed it in KW or something that can be measured in Work. W/e.

thanks for the info guys..i was thinkin of throwing a zex kit on it..but i found a cryo2 kit for little less then 200 and i have seen this around for awhile and wondered if it actually worked. it seems like it may a little, but just not enough to gain that much. my car is a 95 5speed all stock. im thinkin the biggest bang for the buck, so maybe some exhaust work and a 50 shot. Thanks guys!

I spent 5 minutes on the website and I can tell you a few things...
1. you don't inject the CO2 into the intake, You either pass the CO2 through a heat exchanger to cool the intake air or spray it on an intercooler.
2. It gave a 110HP civic a 9% increase in power... so basically 10HP to a civic... expect maybe 15-20 HP
3. a 5 pound bottle of CO2 lasts 3-4 minutes.
4. It's mainly for drag racing.
5. It helps people with FI more than anyone else.

1. Forgot about that part. Since he was comparing it to nitrous...oh well. HAha, it was fun while it lasted.

3. 3-4 minutes? Holy cow, talk about slow release.

4. Drag racing, of course, because of the shortness of the race.

5. Yeah, figures. Maybe some day!
