Price of New Maf Sensor...
Price of New Maf Sensor...
Hey guys...
So after about a minute of driving the other day, when I hit the gas, the car surged once or twice, and the Check Engine light came on. When I took it to AutoZone I got the code P0100 a few times. So, I have a few questions:
A) Is it most likely the MAF sensor that is no good? Or could it be more of a vacuum problem?
B) If it is the MAF sensor, how much do they run for the 4th Gen (I have a 97 GLE). I called Nissan, they said it was $550, and then when I called the auto parts store down the street (a legit place), they said it was $248. Do you think the quality of the products are the same? Or should I just go with the Nissan MAF....or....can I just go to a junkyard and pick up an old MAF and throw it in?
I have a K&N CAI in, and supposedly all aftermarket airfilters burn up the MAF. Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks
Joe

it seems like there was a lot of user error more than maf error. You over oil a the filter thats not good if its an aftermarket intake or stock.
but if thats what you believe then dont use an aftermarket intake.

alright, well my car is running pretty smoothly, i've only felt this surge a few times. i go to school in the middle of nowhere in VA, and will be driving it home to NY to see my mechanic in May. should i get it checked out asap here? or will be ok to keep it as is until i get home in May
vacuum leak wont really be detectable by a smoke test. best way is to listen. If you are getting a MAF new, let me know and I can save you $100 or so off of the dealer price. junkyard or partout will definately be your best bet though. Dont know what you mean by CAI "burning up" mass air flow sensors, but there could be a chance of oil contamination if you oiled yours too much. perhaps the first thing you should do is spray it down thoroughly with some CRC MAF Sensor cleaner (not the electronics cleaner or any other spray). maybe you can find someone to loan ou their MAF for 30 minutes to see if that is indeed the problem.
