heating system makes noise when below freezing

Got a '95 maxima SE, 145,000 miles. When the temperature is below freezing and I start using the heater it makes a horrible whine, shriek, screech noise. Goes away a few minutes after the engine gets to operating temperature. Goes away faster if I have heater on recirculate air mode, so it seems to be affected by temp of air being blown by the fan. Anyone have this problem and know how to fix? I searched the site but couldn't find anyone else with this problem, if I missed a thread please link to it. I suspect it's a problem with the fan blower motor. Thanks!

if you here a whine when you start you car that is your starter the oil in the starter is all thick and needs to be re oiled and if your heater is making noises when it is below freezing well its freaking cold so you cant expect to much from a 95 max with 145K miles
