Good bye 4th geners! it's been a great year

For those of you who don't know me (assuming pretty much everyone here lol), I came from the Honda scene a year ago when I finally decided to give up my Integra GS-R (after getting broken into 3 times and stolen once).

So, last year January I sold the Integ and took over my dad's 95 Maxima GXE w/ sunroof, honeycomb, and driver powerseats!
(was gonna post a pix here but was limited to 5 pix)

I evenutally turned like this
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/131/3...693ee2.jpg?v=0
while my dad bought this.

So on Saturday, me, mom, and dad were cruising on the Maxima w/ the 300ZX wheels (thanks to teejayz) on our way to Super Wall*Mart when...xD ! It's a white SC400 for sale parked on a street! Evenutally we drove back, called the guy, got the info, etc etc. (5k for a clean title 95 SC4 w/ 119k miles)
=D!

Sorry for the poor picture quality, blame my RAZR and my brother for taking his camera w/ him.

Now...here's the lucky aka sh*tty part. After I picked up the car from the guy, the car didn't have front plate so I got pulled over by a biker cop (as in freaking 10 min after I bought the car when I'm heading home to handle insurance and stuff!!!!!111) So yep, I got a ticket for no front plate and no insurance

But oh wells, I'm still happy about the car =)! but no worries guys! I'd still be around and stuff. =)

put insurance on the car today and you can get it thrown out. Go online and get it done, or it will be a $400+ fee.

Congrats on the new car. Enjoy and start with a BFI intake setup. A lot of MKIV parts fit and work on the car.

good luck.

In Massachusetts, by law you are supposed to first go to the insurance company, get the car insured, and have them stamp a form. From there you go to the RMV and get the registration, new title (mailed in 6-8 weeks) and plates. Then you can go back, slap on the plates and drive.

Here in Toronto when you buy a car privately it is your own responsibility to get insured, you CAN drive without insurance illegally, if you are under the age of 23 you must wait while you get the insurance slip mailed to you (several weeks) if you are over the age of 23 you can get a temporary insurance slip EMAILED to you which is good for one month while you wait for your real insurance slip.

On the other hand when buying a new or used car from a licensed dealer they will not process the car and let the car leave the lot if u dont first get insurance on that new car.

Driving without insurance is a $5000 dollar fine and i think its 3 points on your driving record, which in turn will raise your premiums once you do get insured.

I used to drive quite a number of sc400, but only in a parking lot, never got to really put one through the ringer...always thought they were soft though...it was nice that they came with 5spMT though

The problem w/ Massachusetts is that they dont give temporary plates making it a ***** to register a car w/o making a 150 mile trip from the dealer to insurance to RMV to dealer then back home....

SC400 never came in MT. Only the 300 came in 5MT. Ive heard a few SC400's with aftermarket exhausts, and trust me if your into the V8 sound, you gotta get one for it, it sounds SICK. I actually saw a really nice, bluish color one, nice dish on the rims, aftermarket exhaust, sounded SICK.

If i were going to get one, id buy a soarer, already has a 1JZ in it, for those of you who dont know what the 1jz is, its the 2jz's older brother, 2.5L TT, also came in the JZA70 supras.

I was in and out of so many cars back then that who knows what I drove, 500SL looks exaclty like a 600sL etc..etc..

One guy I knew bought one because of all the problems he kept having with his Jag.....(had to get his gas tank replaced as an example)

as stated only the sc300 came as in manual or auto. the Sc400 were auto only.

you can swap a 5spd into it, you can also swap the 1jz into the sc400. There are right ups all over the place.

Also you can TT the 1uz engine that is already in your sc400, the ideas dont stop but take care of your ticket first.

When I bought my maxima, i made like 5 trips to the RMV back to the dealer, back to the insurance place because the dealer made a mistake. It was so aggrivating. I think he messed up the title somehow and i don't know it was just a retarded process. But thats Massachusetts for you.

In 1998, both Lexus SCs underwent substantial revisions. The celebrated 5-speed manual transmission was no longer offered in the 300, but finally became available in the pricer 400. Both SCs had their engines upgraded, but the most significant improvements were under the 400's hood. The already powerful V-8 received a dramatic boost in both horsepower and torque.

While using essentially the same 4.0 liter V-8, the SC 400 now boasted 290 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque... (more about the 1998 Lexus SC 400)
The additional power was attributed to new Variable Valve Timing technology. This system was a first for a production V-8. Its benefits included lower emissions, improved fuel economy, and of course more power due to variable camshaft timing.

For years the SC received criticism that it was not a true sports car. It weighed a hefty 3840 pounds, which hindered pick up and created some body roll. The new engine improvements helped the SC keep pace with competitors, but the rapidly growing market began to leave the luxury coupe looking a bit outdated. The stylish interior appointments and soft quite ride were certainly desirable Lexus luxury attributes that no on seemed to mind. By now, the SC was considered more of a luxury coupe than a true sports car like its competition.

Thank You, you guys just probably never seen one because only about 3% were manual.

we'll i'll be. . . .

I've searched and searched plus talking with many Lexus guys, which lead to the conclusion that the sc400 never came in an MT, but naturally it could be converted.

I know a small percentage of the 300's were MT, but they are still out there.

There are a lot of weight reduction options for the car, fortunately. the Sc300 has a lower curb weight 3400, which puts it pretty much at the weight of the ZX, the supra, 3000gt. But this thread is deferring form its original topic.

SC400 a nice car, wont be faster than the Max, wont be as gracious with the gasoline as the Max, but would be a smooth calm, ride.

The SC400 got a 5 speed AUTOMATIC in 1998. They never came in stick.

Here, I'll do it for you.

Press release ok?
http://www.autoworld.com/SCcoupes.htm

No? How about Wikipedia?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_...281991-2000.29

Not good enough? Yeah Wikipedia always has horrible info anyway. Here's the Soarer FAQ over at intellexual.

Yeah, trust me if the SC400 came in a manual tranny, id know and id have one. That would be such a sick combination. Unfortunetly it didnt. The SC300 5M/T's are still fun to drive though. Factor in a 1JZ/2JZ/1UZ well..any turbo engine in there and the fun factor goes wayy up.

yeah, the sc4 is soo much calmer than the maxima
when I push the sc4, the automatic gearing refused to downshift =(, when in my max it'd be roaring, heavy car but really quiet

debating if i should swap tires and put in my dad's set of 5 spokes 16" gs400 wheels. looks like

except not chrome.....actually like this

In chrome, they are poo. In the NON-chrome (silver), they are the $h!+.

I'd do it. Or I'd wait it out for some 17" IS300 rims...
