I have a stock 96 5speed max. My friend has a 97 olds intrigue. It is of course auto, so I'm assuming I could beat it if I hit the shifts right, get a good launch, etc. I'm not worried about racing him, just curious because edmunds.com rated it at 7.7 0-60, which is right there with an auto max, right? Why haven't I heard more about this car around here...is there something wrong (besides oldsmobile hehe) or is it a legitimate competitor? Thanks.

You'll take him....my bro has a Grand Prix GT which is on the same platform and has the same engine in '97....and I took him when I was stock...were you'll really pull on him is the launch...those things have alot of low end torque...but the 5-speed max can jump off the line A LOT faster. You'll also pull on him HARD up high.

Thanks for the info. Hmmm. I just checked edmunds.com again, looking at the Grand Prix GT. In 97, it's listed at 6.9 seconds 0-60. I assume that's auto, because they don't have manual, do they? I didn't think grand prixs did, and edmunds doesn't have a manual trans option listed. Then I checked the Grand Prix GT in 98, and it's listed at 8.8 0-60! 6.9, 7.7, and 8.8??? What's the difference with these 3 cars? If that's 6.9 seconds with an auto, I'm very impressed. I can't believe they'd get 2 seconds slower when the car goes a year newer, though, unless they took away manual trans? weird. I bet Edmunds is wrong with the 6.9, but if you pulled on a 6.9 second car big time when you were stock, I'm impressed. This will be a fun race.

I raced one on the highway the new ones and he was in front of me as well, all I did was downshift to 4 and I saw him in the rear view mirror trying to catch up. On that same note I dont know how modified is your car, one thing I will tell is that the cattman Y pipe that stuff gives you some ponies and youll feel it.

K&N filter cattman Y pipe greddy exhaust koni adjustables intrax springs club lineas speciale wheels 18x8.0 and a stillen kit that is all I got on my car.

Olds Intrigues are prefectly capable of smoking a stock auto max... but the thing is with them is that the people who drive them usually dont wana race... they now have a DOHC 3.5L V6 that makes 215 hp... its not a bad engine... even though its a 90 degree design...
my experience with Grand Prixs?
the SE 3.1s will do 0-60 in about 8.5-8.8
the GT 3.8s will do 0-60 in about 7.6-7.9
the GTP SC 3.8s will do 0-60 inabout 6.6-6.8
no manual available... i drive one... they are nice cars and yea i can smoke the majority of max's i come across... haha well in my area its usually auto so no contest... but a GTP and a stock Max... i kinda would give the nod to the GTP unless the Max driver is right on the money
