Opening up outer taillights

Hey guys,
I recieved a ticket from the local popo's here in town for my clear outer taillights. I think i'm gonna put back my orange reflector. I remember reading a few years back about being able to open up the casing of the the taillight by putting it in the oven - i just can't remember off hand what it was. I know the link is out ther somewhre, i just can't seem to find it. When I cleared them out, I had used a hair dryer which practically took up my entire day; im tryna shy away from that method this time.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Same concept... this is for the rear tail clear/red conversion. This is using a heat gun instead of the oven.

yeah, heatgun ftw!
just be careful not to pull too hard and crack the corners like I did on mine.

why did you get a ticket? It's not illegal to have clear rear tails. Look at how many cars now-a-days have clear tails....I was under the impression that only the front has to have orange reflectors. Did you look into that? I know this does answer your question but that tickets seems like bull to me.

Anyway, oven for 10 minutes at 250 and then gently pull them apart. Heat gun is a b!tch because you need to keep heating the edges and sometimes parts cool when you try to pull them apart. Use the oven and common sense. Just don't burn the lights. Its simple, I've pulled mine apart 4-5 times. Make sure you seal them good too.

Did you have amber/orange turn signal bulbs in them at the time or another color?

well unless he has blue lights it shouldnt really matter. It's supposed to be that white, yellow, and orange light it legal for rear turn signals. At least here. I guess NJ is different.

Generally speaking, if I have white (blue coated) on my rear blinkers, is it legal while my break lights are still red?

yeah all blinkers must be red, yellow, orange, and white in some places. Thats how it is here in CT. NJ I'm not positive. Go to the DMV site and see if any info is there.

You got a ticket for clearing out your tails? Thats so rediculous take that cop to court omg.. Hell some of the older civic's and accord came stock with cleared out tails. -_-

And as far as the color of turning signal and what not it's different for each state/town, or cop and depending his mood that day he can really pull you over for any reason he damn well feels like it.

I was always under the impression as well that Orange was the only color allowed in the front turning signal. where as orange/yellow/white could be used in the rears.

Clears though..I would never give up my clears.

The law

I believe that you have to keep the red-reflector in the lower-outside corner. That is what i was told by a police-friend on mine. Without that, you are illegal. Similar to the front. You are supposed to have a yellow reflector on the front-side. Most of the clears in the front are illegal. The cop said that most of the time they will not hassle you for those infractions, but they can. Depends on their mood...

Is this so your car reflects the light of cars driving at night so they can see you? Cause I know a few people that have retardedly taken there reflectors out and you can't see the reflection on the taillights at night (you know, as if they're turned on) Until you get close enough to actually just see the car.

thats exactly the reason. You must have a reflector in the front and back of the car. I custom fit reflectors into my corners like the I30 but still need something in the tails. Good luck with the ticket, unfortunately without reflectors and that your lights were not legal color, you can't do much about the ticket.
