seafoam power steering???
seafoam power steering???
wanted to flush out my power steering system, because it is a little whiney and tight at times, and was wndering how to go about draining it??
this is probably a simple question, but i have never done anything but add fliud to a power steering system. nobody at the parts store could tell me either, figured that i could get a better answer here anyway.

This is the only time I would ever use anything made by seafoam. loosened up my PS. To do a proper flush, you will need 2 people, 2 quarts of ATF and an empty bottle to catch the old fluid. before flushing, empty the resevoir and refill it with the Transtune. Drive it for a few days to allow the cleaning. Now comes the fun part. Drain the resevoir again. This time disconnect the PS return line from the bottom of the resevoir (the line that runs towards the radiator). Put the line into an empty bottle (I used a 1L empty sprite bottle). Using your finger, plug up the hole on the bottom of the resevoir and fill with fresh cheap ATF. now Be Prepared To Move Fast. Have your friend start the car an immediately turn the steering wheel lock to lock without holding it at the ends. As he/she is doing this, pour ATF into the resevoir to keep it from running dry. Once done with the first quart, turn the car off. The system has now been flushed. reconnect the return line and fill with fresh ATF (synth or otherwise). Initially there may be bubbles/foam but they will be gone in a few minutes. Top up when all air has left the system. just make sure you do not let the system run empty while you are flushing. you have now changed 100% of the fluid.
Did I mention that this is the only time you should ever use Seafoam for anything? (especially brake booset line and transmission applications)
